As a sapphic woman and a Buddhist, this is my favorite scene from any film or series I have watched.
LGBTQ love is not always welcomed into religious spaces. Sometimes, our love is treated as something that must ask permission to belong, something abnormal, or separate from what is sacred.
That is why this scene affected me so deeply.
Watching two women kneel before the Buddha and make vows to one another, I saw myself and my wife reflected on screen. Their love was not outside a sacred space asking to be accepted. It was already inside it, treated with dignity, tenderness, and spiritual meaning.
At its heart, Buddhism teaches compassion, kindness, non-harm, and the importance of how we live this life. It is incredibly rare to see sapphic love represented through religion with this much care, and the actresses, writers, director, and production treated both the scene and the relationship of Mae/Por with such respect that the scene felt wholesome and profoundly moving.
The vow about dedicating the merit of one’s lifetime to loving and protecting the person you love touched me the most. To me, that is such a pure expression of love. Not possession or performance, but intention, compassion, protection, and devotion.
It also carries a deeper meaning: our worth is not determined by who we love, but by the goodness we cultivate, the way we treat others, and the life we choose to live. The merit we create can ripple outward to the people we love.
My wife and I are both Buddhist, and when I look at her, I carry a similar vow in my heart: that whatever good merit I have cultivated in this life, and whatever goodness may have carried over from lives before, I hope it can be used to love her, protect her, and walk beside her for as long as I am able. 💖
There is a Vietnamese saying:
“Tu trăm năm mới đi chung một chuyến thuyền, tu ngàn năm mới nên duyên vợ chồng.”
A hundred years of cultivated fate to share the same boat, a thousand years to become life partners.
That saying came to mind immediately because this scene captured how rare it is to find someone you truly want to walk through life with, and how meaningful it is to make a lifetime vow sincerely.
Thank you to the actresses and the entire production for carrying this scene with such care and respect.
This was more than a romantic GL scene to me. It felt like queer love, faith, compassion, and lifelong devotion were allowed to exist together exactly as they should: with dignity, tenderness, and sacredness.
Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH.😭🙏 🙏
