They call it The Great Resignation. No one talks about what happens after the resignation: The Great Unravelling. My personal story of leaving my 15-year career. https://t.co/omZWkjfhsQ
@DaliaZinaGhanem Now I understand why as I was leaving the airport several weeks back one of the workers brought me aside and asked if I’d be willing to give her US dollars for her Lebanese lira. Politely declined & told her I understood the predicament she was in during these tough times 😳😐
@habib_b I met an Aoun supporter while there & asked him about people saying they were part of a cult. Didn’t seem to know or acknowledge what I was talking about lol—told me Aoun has been the only politician truely in support of the Lebanese people while others had alternative agendas.
@inihelene So many bests! Top one would be when I moved to Beirut and lived there in my 20s. So many events resulted from this one decision. Hard to pick “worst”—I strictly believe it all leads you to your opportunities and your best decisions anyways! :)
Who steals reflectors and lights from a bike? People in DC, apparently. Incredibly happy to bike at 10pm without either. 😍 Hope whoever stole my shit actually made some money and put it to good use. But know you pissed off one lady, royally.
You know how liberals hated Bush until Trump came along? And all of a sudden Bush seemed like delicious ice cream cake on your 10th birthday? Yeah, the same thing is kind of true for bicycles and scooters, right? Thanks, scooters, for allowing cars to hate me a taaad bit less! 💙
Time for @lyft to also jump on the bandwagon and join @TentOrg -- @hamdiulukaya's nonprofit helping to mobilize the private sector to employ refugees. Yes, it's good for business and the bottom line, but in doing so, it also changes the types of conversations we are having :-)
"America is an idea, not a geography." Have you seen @lyft's recently launched immigration campaign? It's great to see more and more private entities supporting this cause, despite the US administration's battle! Great ad campaign in this weekend's @nytimes magazine.
@migrant_mothers I always feel like I'm returning home when I visit Beirut's Hamra district :) Not even a specific building (since I moved so many times)--just the neighborhood and the people. And I really, really miss some good street turmos!
I had the opportunity to check out new American communities in Nashville. One, in particular, called out to me: Little Kurdistan! My first piece for Urban Land. #placemaking
#Community input and partnerships can help preserve #multicultural#diversity in a fast-growing city. For just one example, #Nashville is home to 15,000 Kurdish residents with their neighborhood dubbed “Little Kurdistan” by locals.

@girlwithatail I quit coffee for several months. It’s really poor diet that sustains the addiction to caffeine. That period where I was eating well was probably the most energetic I’ve ever felt ;)
Ever want greater insight into your ancestors and how they migrated to the US? Migrants from present-day Lebanon, Syria, Turkey. Including residence and occupation. Might find someone you’re related to 😮
Who knew this existed? Exhaustive list of migrants living in NYC's Syrian Colony 1880-1900, gathered by Linda Jacobs. Might you be related to anyone? https://t.co/fGus1km0IF Good find from @MiddleEastBooks, covering topics like assimilation and resistance.
@MENA_Conflict I’ve always wondered if it affected the receiving person negatively to basically point out that they sound different. I am empathetic to different peoples’ reactions and know some may respond differently, so I actually won’t do it until I’ve built a connection with them :)
“There’s a sucker born every minute.” 😂 Why am I just learning about the Barnum effect? In my opinion, it reveals our self-centered human way of believing we really are THAT special/unique. (Hint: We’re not) https://t.co/Yg6SVuJ3zq
@LynneMusick @ULI_Nashville@UrbanLandInst@sme_engineering Also a topic of discussion when we toured Nolensville Pike, one of the main hubs for immigrant communities in South Nashville. Due to hiking prices, many forced to move out & causing displacement. One project is Envision Nolensville Pike-- inclusive development underway.. :-)
