Learning happens far beyond the classroom walls, especially when protecting our planet's most critical habitats.
Collaborative cleanup exercise with school environmental club stewards, while having first hand experience on pollution impacts in a viable turtle natal ground.
The mission continues!
Keeping our beaches #litterfree isn't just about cleanups, it’s about inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards to protect our oceans. Every piece of plastic removed is a victory for marine life and a step toward a healthier planet.
Three years ago, we initiated the #greeningofschoolsproject; establishing woodlots in primary schools through tree planting exercises in collaboration with school environmental clubs. Today Msumarini is no longer an open field, among 15 schools we have impacted since initiation.
Structure beach cleanup exercise with school environmental club; where students engage in sorting/categorization and brand auditing of collected marine debris for data purpose.
A shift in seasonality from SEM to NEM reveals the magnitude of physical damage on coral reefs attributed to basket trap fishery, with an increased fishing effort since the ocean conditions are getting calmer.

Kenya's archipelago and the forgotten illegal dumping sites chocking marine ecosystem. It is a moment of re-evaluating our cleanup efforts and tackle the issue of waste generation and management on our ocean mini islands, otherwise zero work!! #marinedebris#wastemanagement
Citizen science informs sustainable management of resources. Had the opportunity over the past few weeks, of taking into consideration the community perspectives on marine ecosystems status in Kilifi County. #PwaniUniversity#OceanAccountsProject
Ecological monitoring divers strive to assess ecosystem health, understand environmental impacts and detect threats on critical marine ecosystems. Each dive is a new discovery! #divinglife#marinelife#marineconservation#marinescience
With coastal development and constant shoreline changes, sea turtle #insitu nests are becoming unheard of in beaches that were once ancestral #natal grounds along the Kenya's coastline. Complete no regard for the high watermark setback policy.

Ancestral #myths surrounding #sea#turtle meat consumption ("boosts libido in men") and oil ("cures hearing ailments"), are active #poaching drivers among the #Kenya's coastal community, despite the presence of Turtle Conservation Groups.
