I'm in Belgrade at the St. Sava Cathedral and the most precious relic of the Mother of God - Her Belt - is visiting from the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi on Mt Athos. It hasn't been here for 600 years. This is day 12 and each day people in the tens of thousands line up for miles (literally) and wait 10 hrs in the sun to be able to venerate it - kids, parents, grandparents - extremely moving to see such devotion. What would an American spend 10hrs standing to see? Rock concerts? A NBA finals game? It is incredible.
🔸 May 29 - The Fall of Constantinople 🔸
On the 29th of May, we mourn the Fall of Constantinople in 1453, an event which marked the fall of the Roman Empire. Founded by the Great Emperor Saint Constantine in 330, Constantinople prospered from its strategic location between Europe and Asia, and became the largest and wealthiest city in Europe from the 5th to the 11th centuries. With its crowning jewel being the cathedral of Hagia Sophia, the largest church the world had ever seen, Constantinople served as the spiritual heart of Eastern Christendom for over 1000 years.
While the city survived many sieges in its history by the Persians, Avars, Goths, Slavs and Arabs, the Sack of Constantinople in 1204 by the Latin crusaders weakened the empire to such an extent it was never able to recover. By April 1453, the Ottomans had surrounded the city’s Theodosian walls. When the last Byzantine Emperor Constantine XI Palaiologos was urged by his companions to flee, he reportedly replied:
“God forbid that I should live as an Emperor without an Empire. As my city falls, 1 will fall with it. Whosoever wishes to escape, let him save himself if he can, and whoever is ready to face death, let him follow me.”
After a 55 day siege, the 21 year old Ottoman Sultan Mehmet II conquered the city on Tuesday May 29 1453, with an army of over 80,000. Shortly before the city fell, Constantine XI visited Hagia Sophia and prayed for the forgiveness of his sins before the bishops, and received Holy Communion. Leading a final charge against the Ottomans, the courageous Emperor died a martyr. The Fall of Constantinople marked the start of centuries of Christian persecution and enslavement, and ushered in an era of “New Martyrs” - Christians killed under Ottoman rule for refusing to convert to Islam.
I made some suggestions in my reply above. Again, you are keeping THIS government in mind and trying to apply changes. It wont happen which is why, again..I said they all need to go, making it easier for Australian companies to make a choice. You cannot take public funds as subsidies and still export jobs, it makes no sense and its driving this country under.
Have a good day
It should be illegal for Australian businesses to offshore jobs overseas..
When you hear words like "restructuring our business model"
"company is moving in a different direction".. it means bye bye jobs to Philippines or India!
48 people lost their jobs today that I know of 🥺
@Marcgstar And here we are arriving at the crux of the matter of my post! Thank you for the dialogue and lets hope change happens before we all end up destitute 🙏
Amending laws governing government subsidies, grants, and tax concessions (eg attaching eligibility conditions under relevant funding/Industry Assistance legislation) to disqualify companies that offshore significant numbers of Australian jobs. Remove taxpayer support for firms shifting roles overseas while still seeking public funds.. 🤷🏻♀️
In my reply Ive stated the policies /laws must be changed so Aussie companies are not going overseas but sustaining our own economy. Depending on the govt handouts will never yield a positive outcome because it creates a master/slave loop with no end in sight. Conglomerates have plenty of power to influence our politicians so the question remains why are they not fighting this tooth and nail?! Changing the tax system should be their biggest concern
Im a stay at home wife and mum and that job I have to do from home. Government allowed this mess through their policies which ultimately destroyed Aussie economy. Luckily for them I'll never be in a position of power because they'd all be in jail. Whichever way you spin this, unemployed wont contribute and this country wont prosper if it continues..

You wont get to eat any cake if you have no job so its not the little guy that should suffer. Those in power dont want to change this, the question is why..
Perhaps the billionaire companies that can afford to offshore jobs can equally lobby the government to change the policies, because right now they are participating. Small businesses cannot sustain the costs associated so again its the small guy suffering. I dont know how to change this but something gotta give.

@ronInBendigo I dont know what other words to use for destruction of Australian economy, criminals in our government are way more skilled in word games. It is exhausting and must be stopped.
@razorsharp2538 Ive said it about 20 times now in replies that govt needs to be sacked and jailed but as it stands the unemployed will do what? Sit on Centrelink? Who will work in this country?
@Dyl19041609 Instead of trying to enjoy life, limiting worries to a minimum as best we can, now its a whole different situation where the worry is the actual existence and survival in this country. Its not good enough, what majority gave and what we are getting in return? A darn rotten deal
@Dyl19041609 Sounds like:
Us: Think outside the square!
Them : No thanks
Nevertheless thank you for your service, it lowers our cortisol significantly 🫶🏼
