It's International Level Crossing Awareness Day!
This is a 1994 Railtrack level crossing safety vid. Dad was working on the signalling section at the time & I can't remember if he was specifically involved with level crossings then but he was at one point

A train coming towards you barely makes a sound.
This International Level Crossing Awareness Day, we're reminding you to always stop, look and listen at level crossings:

Sigh.
While it's good that passenger services are coming back in to public ownership, in reality it's making no difference!
All 3 of the TOCs that provide local services in my area are DfT or GBR run and there's been no improvement to the service what so ever!
From today, millions of passengers will have better train journeys.
Weβve nationalised Thameslink, Southern, Great Northern and Gatwick Express with plans to recruit more drivers and improve signalling to reduce delays and cancellations.
Yesterday was the first time I'd been to Clapham Junction and / or Waterloo & hadn't seen a class 455 EMU since 1984! Sadly the last ones were withdrawn a couple of weeks ago.
I did see one, however, at, of all places, Cockshute!
TBH I would prefer new trains! Taking a 4 coach train from the Midlands / North West via Birmingham to the South is always overcrowded.
'A real step change' says an XC cheese in the video - is it boot. Not impressed.
I see there's a lot of promotion about the new XC Voyager refurb. Trouble is that XC have had the franchise since 2007 and this is the first major upgrade the Voyagers have had since then. It's taken 19 years!
