Today, the Mayor of @CityofKigali, Samuel Dusengiyumva, joined global leaders at the 10th World Cities Summit in #Singapore and participated in a panel discussion themed “Cities for People Leadership: Are Cities Good for Your Health?”, exploring key challenges related to urban liveability and sustainability.
During the session, Mayor @dusengiyumvas highlighted #Kigali’s bold vision for advancing smart, inclusive, and resilient urban planning.
Later in the afternoon, High Commissioner @IBMuhizi received him for a courtesy call at our office. Their discussion covered a wide range of issues, including opportunities to deepen bilateral collaboration with Singaporean urban and infrastructure developers.

It’s a bit surprising you start your list of criticisms of Rwanda with “widespread poverty”. To me the opposite is a lot more true - how successful Rwanda has been in reducing poverty in a landlocked country, heavy populated and in with an agricultural economy.
Nearly all African nations struggle to develop fast. Rwanda is a shining example for the continent on rapid growth and fast reduction in poverty.
In 1990 Burundi and Rwanda were at the same level. I believe Rwanda is now five times richer per capita.

The discussion underscored several strategic priorities, including:
✅ Ensuring policy certainty and institutional credibility;
✅ Early engagement with buyers through structured offtake agreements to de-risk projects and mobilise broader financing;
✅ Prioritisation of scalable and high-impact sectors, particularly methane reduction, energy transition, e-mobility, and clean infrastructure;
✅ Developing a robust national carbon market ecosystem to support long-term participation and global competitiveness.
