How can we not worship Allah when He has given us countless blessings without asking for anything in return?
He gave us life, health, provision, and a world full of blessings—yet we sometimes forget to be grateful.
🤝 Your Friends Can Shape Your Faith—and Your Fate
The Qur’an strongly warns us that the people we choose as close companions can influence our faith, character, behavior, and ultimately our fate.
🛑 1. Bad company can pull you away from Allah
Allah describes the regret of someone on the Day of Judgment:
«“Oh, I wish I had not taken that person as a close friend! He led me away from the Reminder after it had reached me.”
— Qur’an 25:28–29»
The Arabic word khalīl refers to an extremely close and intimate friend. This shows how deeply our closest relationships can affect us.
🌱 2. Choose righteous company
Allah says:
«“O believers! Be mindful of Allah and be with those who are truthful.”
— Qur’an 9:119»
Allah doesn’t only command us to be truthful—He also tells us to be with those who are truthful.
Your environment matters.
🌸 3. The Prophet ﷺ explained it beautifully
The Prophet ﷺ said:
«“The example of a good companion and a bad companion is like that of a musk seller and a blacksmith...”
— Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim»
A good companion leaves you with something beneficial, while a bad companion can leave a negative influence on you—even when you don't realize it.
⚠️ 4. Some friendships will become a source of regret
Allah says:
«“Woe to me! I wish I had never taken so-and-so as a friend.”
— Qur’an 25:28»
Islam does not teach us to hate sinners or treat people with cruelty. Rather, it teaches us to be wise about who we allow to become our closest influence.
You can be kind to everyone—but not everyone deserves equal access to your heart, your time, and your character.
And remember: good companionship is not only about finding people who make you feel good; it is about finding people who remind you of Allah, encourage you to obey Him, and correct you when you go wrong.
💭 Your friends don't just influence what you do today. They can influence who you become tomorrow.
So ask yourself:
Are the people closest to me bringing me closer to Allah—or slowly making me forget Him?
May Allah bless us with righteous companions who increase us in faith and goodness, and protect us from companionship that distances us from Him. Ameen. 🤲🏽
