𧡠1/ It is ACTIONS, not money spent, that trigger hard caps at either the 1st or 2nd Apron.
This is normally communicated poorly by saying what you "aren't allowed to do over X Apron."
If a hard cap is triggered, a team cannot exceed that hard cap for any reason whatsoever.
@HoopTroopNBA Perspective on this is helpful. Mavs had the leagues longest sellout streak of like 15+ years. Mavs tickets were very expensive 2 weeks ago. Even if the stadium is full, doesn't mean the demand is as high.
@MazenMaali@esidery You can't renegotiate and extend a 4+ year contract until the 3rd anniversary of the signing date. By all reports it seems like the signing date was 8/27/21.
@QualifiedImpun2@Oriiberuu@esidery I'm 100% right about the rule.
Every report was 8/27/21. It's hard to imagine how the contract is actually from 3 weeks prior
@razvinator@DoeJumars@JLEdwardsIII Example:
β DET signs Player A for $10m using cap space and only has $1m left in cap space. They can then use the room MLE to sign a player for up to $8m per year.
βDET cannot combine the $11m in cap + $8m room MLE to sign a player for $19m/year
@razvinator@DoeJumars@JLEdwardsIII -The room MLE is available every years to teams who are operating under the cap (like DET)
-It allows them to go over the cap to acquire a player
-the amount is fixed $8m in 2024
-up to 3yr contract with 5% raises
-it *does* count towards your cap
-it can not be combined
@RichHomieFlom The players got CRUSHED in negotiations. The biggest one (which nobody is talking about) is the 10% limit on salary cap increase. The owners are going to RAKE under this new TV deal. CJ should be impeached immediately.
@euph31@YoungNBA The biggest disaster for the players is the 10% cap increase limit. It's going to cost them billions of dollars with this new TV deal.
It's almost as if a group of the most successful businessmen in the world negotiated with a group of professional athletes.
