In 1838, the Boers invaded land belonging to indigenous people in what is now known as KwaZulu-Natal. AmaZulu fought fearlessly in defence of their land. Their bravery later inspired the ANC’s uMkhonto we Sizwe. The struggle for land continues to be a hotly contested issue in RSA
On 16 December 1838, more than 10 000 Zulu fighters attacked 464 Boers in Natal. The Boers pray to God and asked Him to help them in Battle. The Boers won with 3000 Zulu dead and 3 Boers lightly wounded. The Boers made a promise to commemorate this day and treat it as a Holy day
