What happens when football, politics, money, power, ambition and complete chaos collide on a small island in the Mediterranean?
The Book of Mappa is the definitive account of the 2025/26 Cyprus football season, an extraordinary campaign that delivered title races, cup finals, financial crises, boardroom battles, investor takeovers, transfer sagas, disciplinary controversies and enough drama to make most soap operas look underwritten.
Spanning more than 830 pages, this season-long chronicle follows the stories that shaped Cypriot football both on and off the pitch. From championship celebrations and European ambitions to debt, governance disputes, ownership struggles and controversial decisions that left supporters wondering whether the rulebook had been replaced by a lucky dip, The Book of Mappa explores every corner of one of Europe's most unique football environments.
Featuring clubs including Omonoia, APOEL, Pafos, Aris, AEK Larnaca, Apollon and Anorthosis, the book examines the personalities, power struggles and pivotal moments that defined the season. Along the way it delves into allegations of corruption, match-fixing controversies, financial uncertainty, political interference, disciplinary disputes and some truly jaw-dropping rulings from the Sports Judge that somehow managed to unite rival supporters in collective disbelief.
The book also explores one of the darkest chapters in Cypriot football history, examining the assassination of a club president and the wider questions it raised about the sport, its governance and the forces operating around it.
Combined with extensive reporting, analysis, interviews and commentary, it paints a picture of a football landscape where the stories beyond the touchline are often every bit as compelling as those on it.
Part football season review, part investigative journalism, part business case study and part satire, The Book of Mappa is an unfiltered look at modern football in Cyprus. It is a story of triumph and failure, vision and mismanagement, hope and frustration, where every solution seems to create two new problems and every quiet week is usually followed by a public statement, an emergency meeting or a social media meltdown.
Whether you are a supporter of Cypriot football, a fan of European football, interested in football finance, governance and ownership, or simply enjoy reading stories that seem too absurd to be true, The Book of Mappa offers a unique and entertaining journey through a season that repeatedly blurred the line between sport and theatre.
The complete 830+ page digital edition is available to download in PDF format through our Patreon for £15.
Some football leagues produce champions.
Cyprus football produced enough material for a satire. The fact none of it had to be invented is perhaps the most worrying part.

Friday brings down the curtain on the 2025/26 season with the Cyprus Cup final. Fittingly, it also brings us to the final entry of The Book of Mappa - ending exactly where it all began: with the previous season's cup final.
Nice bit of symmetry there. Makes it sound like it was planned.
It's been hectic, draining, challenging, emotional and, at times, completely exhausting. Somewhere between the managerial changes, financial chaos, late-night statements and general Cyprus football behaviour, this somehow turned into an incredible journey too.
Unfortunately, the book has reached the stage where printing it in paperback starts to look less like publishing and more like deforestation. Thankfully, thanks to Patreon, The Book of Mappa will be available digitally and, with a bit of luck, we should also have it available on Kindle.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed, helped, provided information and joined us along the way.
Without you, this book would have been much shorter.
And much less fun.

Roberto Baggio's new book "Light In The Darkness" reveals INSANE things about coach Lippi at Inter:
- Lippi getting angry for Baggio using spicy olive oil,
- Lippi demanding Baggio spy on his teammates,
- Lippi "constantly attacking" & "bullying" Baggio
"He [Lippi] got angry at me because I used a dash of spicy olive oil in my salad. For him this was some form of sacrilege." 🥗
"One time during the pre-match training camp, we were all allowed one glass of wine with our food. Myself, Peruzzi, Ferron & Frezzolini asked for a bottle [to share]. Lippi got angry. Same night it was Seedorf's birthday, whom shortly after opened a couple of bottles of champagne to make a toast. That was ok, but for us evidently not." 🍷
"He wanted to meet me in March, he asked me to name the names of players who could potentially argue with him.
I replied in my own way: 'Coach, I train my hardest, you can evaluate if I deserve to play or not but please don't ask me to do anything else'.
Annoyed, he tried to provoke me from the start of the summer, to instigate a reaction from me. But I never lost my temper, I had read the game.
If I had reacted any differently, he would have the excuse to accuse me of trying to disrupt the dressing room." 🕵️
"One day Lippi yelled at me in an arrogant and aggressive way: 'Phenomenon, why don't you tell your teammates what is wrong with you?'
I replied with maximum calm: 'Coach, why don't you tell the teammates what you asked me to do' alluding to his request for me to spy on the team." 🐀
"One time I joked to a journalist that Inter was like a Ferrari being driven by a traffic warden. The following training session, he put me in the middle of the pitch for a public trial in front of my teammates. It was a constant attack, tangible bullying." 👨⚖️
"In the end, Lippi was practically forced to play me in the Champions League playoff against Parma in Verona. My two goals were decisive: a freekick to the right of the area that surprised Buffon & a powerful left footed shot from outside the area.
We won 3-1 and for me it was a nice redemption on a personal level, after lots of problems.
Someone commented that I favored the very coach who had humiliated me.
Maybe without those two goals, Lippi would have been sacked at the end of that season. But I hadn't even thought about that for a second: I was playing for my team, to honor the shirt and the fans." 🖤💙
