@FootballInT80s That was the first England game I watched. And my England scarf was up in my bedroom soon after! But the best bit here is the laugh in the background which I loved at the time. Only years later finding out it was Jimmy Hill! Cracking stuff
@sid_lambert@90sfootball Great game! I can recall running home from school and watching every single minute of that game as if it was (almost!) yesterday. As a 13 yr old at the time, that tournament was the peak of my World Cup enjoyment 😍
@cjsouthwell1902 Given he’s not played a first team match yet for Cruzeiro, why would we deem him first team material for the rough and tumble of championship football immediately, rather than for a period in the U21’s to acclimatise and assess ability/adaption first?
@secondtierpod I remember my teenage-self trying to stay up in 1994 and watch Nigeria v Greece after midnight, only to fall asleep halfway through. I won’t be attempting the same this time around!
@TengoOtraCosa@FootballInT80s 100%. Playing styles of each country used to be exotic, unique, recognisable and a bit of a mystery until you watch them play. Now it’s very much amalgamated and everyone plays the same way to a degree. There are few unknown players or surprises when you watch the World Cup now
@GlesgaBluemk6 Looks like about 1994 to me. That’s when I bought my first car and was pretty much the price I was paying - I recall filling half my tank for around £6! Mind you, I was only earning £2 an hour!
@80s90sfootball Vague memories of watching Steaua v Barca in 1986, though 1987 and Paulo Futre (Porto v Bayern) is the one I clearly remember - watching that whilst on holiday.
