History Repeating — But This Time in Solidarity
Nearly a decade ago, The Gambia experienced a historic democratic breakthrough when long-time dictator Yahya Jammeh — who had held power for more than 22 years — attempted to overturn the results of the 2016 election after being defeated by Adama Barrow. With firm support from regional and international partners, the will of the Gambian people prevailed. Barrow assumed office in 2017 after nearly a month in exile. His presidency became a beacon of democratic renewal in West Africa.
Today, that experience places Barrow and The Gambia in a uniquely empathetic position. They understand firsthand what it means when citizens vote for change and a dictator refuses to step aside.
By offering Bakary safe haven, The Gambia is reinforcing a powerful message that dictators can be removed at the ballot box, and the sovereignty of the people must always be respected.
As discussions to resolve the crisis in Cameroon continue with regional support — including from Nigeria — The Gambia says it remains committed to peace, stability and the democratic rights of Africans everywhere.
And once again, the small West African nation is demonstrating that even in moments of political uncertainty, solidarity can be a force for freedom.
The protest yesterday was disorganized, disorderly and left in the wrong hands, such mistakes must be corrected for any protest to be efficient.
The protest most be orderly, peaceful and the purpose clear.
We can’t have people go on the streets to shut stones at police officers and stuff and expect to pass a message, it shouldn’t start that way.
I call on every leader who has been encouraging people to take to the streets, now is the time for you to rise and lead them, lead us. What I saw yesterday was heart breaking and if we continue this way not only will people not support any idea of protest but it will empower the regime even further.
It’s now or never.

@MimiMefoInfo He wasn't arrested in dla but rather in yde and transferred to dla and for you all to be clear his arrest isn't because of his political affiliation but on something else.
Apparently according to the Regime Biya has “won” the elections and he’ll be declared winner this week🤦🏾♂️💔
It’s up to the people now! Not just those in Cameroon but worldwide.
