A newly unsealed court filing shows just how seriously Tesla protects its Autopilot technology. Even Tesla employees need special approval to access it.

Engineer Christopher Payne detailed the security measures: multi-factor authentication required multiple times daily, USB ports disabled on company laptops, special ID badges needed for each building, and strict NDAs for all employees.

Even Tesla engineers working on Autopilot must justify why they need access, then get approval from both their manager and the Autopilot team.

Only designated engineers can enter certain development areas. The organizational chart isn't even available to those outside the team.

Payne explained why: "The technology that makes up Autopilot is critical to the overall success of Tesla's business."
