X became a cesspool Find me on Bluesky @noellesullivan.bsky.social #GlobalHealth prof @NorthwesternU. Health Policy, #voluntourism, Development, 🇹🇿 & 🇺🇸.
Come join me on Bluesky, it's like Twitter used to be but maybe even better. Here's how to get started finding people you know there.

@ArchaicSage@GeorgeMonbiot The data doesn’t bear “better reasons” out. It wasn’t until 2008 that 2A was interpreted as right to unfettered access to whatever firearms people wanted. Since then the # of gun deaths have expanded, and mass murders more still. It’s a uniquely American problem
If you're interested in a prof's work, go to their office hours and ask them about their trajectory. Have specific questions in mind for them. Often students will email me interested in my work, and then tell me all about my work...that doesn't help you /5
You need your profs to get to know you as a thinker, communicator, doer. It seems intimidating but it doesn't have to be. Take smaller seminars with the prof, ask about research assistant opportunities, apply to work in their lab. Let them see you in action /4
-challenge their existing ideas, learning to be comfortable with not knowing the answer to complicated problems
-improving depth of reading reflection papers
-being open to their own inexperience without judgment
-expand ability to ask uncomfortable questions /8
-spacing out work instead of cramming so they could really think about and engage with the ideas in the readings
-starting assignments early so they could do multiple drafts & get peers to review
-staying on top of readings (many said this was the 1st term they ever did) /7
Much as we'd like to imagine it is, hearing primarily non-Spanish speakers teach the same poorly-crafted "hygiene" talk is not "huge impact." "Charla" means "chat," but Brigades participants are doing all the talking.
@jeff_andersen@BlythetheBell@Dr_S_Jefferson@EpiEllie She doesn’t need to support those assertions because they’re facts & anyone who is unclear on them has access to a plethora of materials produced over decades (centuries really) that proves them. You can do the work to read that instead of asking her to teach it to you on Twitter
