On Tuesday, our CEO Kate Lee joined figures from across society, including Jewish community representatives, at Number 10 Downing Street to discuss rising antisemitism in the country.
Kate spoke to BBC Radio London yesterday about the important discussions from the meeting.
"The Civil Society Covenant provides an important foundation for that, but it will be the actions we take together that make the difference."
Kate Lee, CEO
"It was brilliant to bring together such a diverse group of civil society leaders for the first meeting of the Civil Society Council at 10 Downing Street with the Prime Minister."
"From unlocking the potential of procurement to better support charities and social value, to addressing pressures on capacity and volunteering, it’s clear that meaningful partnership must sit at the heart of this work."
At the roundtable, we highlighted the real challenges facing our members – rising costs, growing demand, community tensions and reduced volunteering. It was encouraging to share these issues directly with government and to see a clear willingness to listen, engage and act.
Charities are at the ❤️ of our communities across 🇬🇧
At Downing Street last week @Steph_Peacock & I heard directly from civil society leaders about how we can continue to work in partnership with the sector to understand the pressures they face.
“When the loudest voices are spreading hate and division, it can feel hard for hope to cut through. But hope isn’t rare. It’s everywhere, in communities across the UK. That’s what A Million Acts of Hope is all about, amplifying the real story of this country."
Kate Lee, CEO
We were proud to support this joint letter, alongside colleagues across civil society, raising concerns about proposed changes to the Charity Commission for England and Wales powers.
