CREO is thrilled to welcome Dr. Jen Jennings to speak next week at Notre Dame!
Dr. Jennings is Professor of Domestic Policy, Sociology, and Public Affairs at Princeton. Her research examines racial, socioeconomic, and gender disparities in educational and health outcomes.
Dr. Brian Holzman from Texas A&M University spoke to CREO affiliates about the effects of “newcomer” programs on English language acquisition and high school outcomes!
Findings suggest that immigrant newcomer programs increase English learning and decrease disciplinary action.
Last week, several students and faculty at Notre Dame had the chance to hear Dr. Corey Moss-Pech from Florida State University discuss his book “Major Trade-Offs: The Surprising Truths about College Majors and Entry-Level Jobs”!
As part of our CREO speaker series, we are excited to welcome Dr. Brian Holzman to the Notre Dame campus on Monday, 9/28!
Dr. Holzman's research examines student pathways from middle school to college, paying particular attention to barriers to equity for marginalized students.
Joining @NotreDame this fall is Dr. Bonnie Siegler, a Columbia University sociology PhD grad and new CREO post-doc scholar!
Dr. Siegler's research focuses on how educational organizations and policies attempt to solve social problems, particularly related to race/ethnicity.
CREO is excited to welcome Dr. Corey Moss-Pech to speak at @NotreDame about his book "Major Trade-Offs"!
Dr. Moss-Pech is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Florida State University who studies how individuals navigate both educational and labor market organizations.
In a recent publication in Socius, the American Sociological Association's open-access journal for empirical research, CREO members Steven Alvarado and Sofia Dueñas highlight the prevalence and context of deadly weapon incidents in schools.

Many congratulations to recent CREO PhD graduate Dr. Suzanne Wood! Dr. Wood is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Bethel University in Tennessee, where she will be teaching "Contemporary Issues in America" and "Law and Society" in the fall 2026 semester.
Many CREO members had a wonderful time at the American Sociological Association (@ASAnews) annual meeting in New York City earlier this month! CREO, along with the Brown University Sociology Department, sponsored the Sociology of Education reception held on August 9th.

Congrats to CREO student Dalia Mota for receiving the American Dream Grant from the Franco Family Institute for Liberal Arts and Public Good at Notre Dame! The grant will support her dissertation "Cliques, Clubs, and Community: An Ethnographic Inquiry into High School Belonging."
CREO PhD students Joe Thursby and Hannah Petersen had a great time learning quantitative methods in the ICPSR Summer Program at the University of Michigan this July! They both took courses in longitudinal data analysis and computational text analysis in the 4-week session.
Congrats to two @NotreDame graduating seniors, Liliana Hobday and Andrew Jitendran, who studied education-related topics for their honors theses!

Patrick is a Senior Fellow at the American Federation for Children, and his dissertation used Indiana administrative and survey data to investigate teacher quality and turnover.
In the spring 2026 semester, sociologist Dr. Natasha Quadlin (@UCLA) presented: “What’s in an A? Gender, Race, and the Evaluation of Achievement in the Labor Market.”
Dr. Quadlin's talk discussed how gender and race shape workplace evaluations of higher education achievement.
Thank you to Dr. Jacob Hibel (@ucdavis) for being part of CREO's seminar series! Dr. Hibel's talk was titled “Innovation and Isomorphism in Public Education Policy during California’s Era of Local Control,” which outlined similarities in policy adoption among school districts.
Congratulations to CREO graduate student Maura Kraemer for receiving the Outstanding Graduate Student Teacher Award from @NotreDame's Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence! The award recognizes Maura's excellence in teaching graduate Statistics and undergraduate Methods.
