Is this scene just a fantasy or did it REALLY happen?
I see in the ending that this is considered a "What-if" situation, if Patriarch Ymir could give up doing everything according to King Fritz. But who knows if this really happened?
The progenitor Ymir holds the origin of the Titan's powers, which includes the ability to transmit memories of the Attack Titan
Step 1:
- In the present day, after Ymir saw Mikasa ending Eren, Ymir had the answer about what to do: Let go of blind love.
Step 2:
- Ymir transmitted visual memories of 2000 years ago to Ymir while alive.
Step 3:
- Ymir no longer sacrifices himself for King Fritz. There is no more scene where the three children eat their mother's body. The above scene actually happened.
Step 4:
- Ymir died at an old age. The Titan's power disappeared with her. The three children did not inherit the titan's power.
That is a world without Titans in the new timeline. So Eren told Armin that Mikasa was the key to eliminating Titan power in this world (for the Progenitor Ymir).
If we follow this new timeline, the scene of the plane bombing Paradis at the end is not revenge from the islanders. That's just a new world without Titans (the real world we readers are living in). Still full of war and modern science and technology.
