Speaking on #SDG9, @ndeborah1 called for a shift from fragmented, project-based approaches to sovereign, scalable digital systems, highlighting UNDP’s the @timbuktooafrica initiative, which supports youth innovation through its UniPods, hubs & more.
Great discussion with @UNIDO at #ARFSD12 reflected on the importance of digital transformation, adaptive capabilities & institutional changes needed to embed experimentation, learning & innovation into industrial policy & practice, featured Systems&Portfolios & @timbuktooafrica
3rd day of the 8th #ARSTIF at #ARFSD12.
@ndeborah1 of @UNDP emphasized that innovation needs to be embedded in how industrial systems function, with experimentation, learning and development intelligence informing decision-making and scaling.
At the panel, @jmartyns highlighted 2 shifts needed to unlock financing opportunities in Africa:
➡️ Move from short-term, project-based approaches to country-level systems
➡️ Design integrated solutions across sectors
That’s how we promote ownership & sustainability.🌍
#ARFSD12
Honored to moderate the launch of the Africa Sustainable Development Report 2026 at #ARFSD12, engaging leaders across the continent on how implementation is evolving.
As countries advance Agenda 2030 & Agenda 2063 in a complex global context, discussions underscored growing alignment between the two as a coherent delivery framework.
Focus now shifts to action at country level—through stronger institutions, cross-sector coordination, and better use of data & financing. Urbanization, energy, water & innovation systems are shaping the path forward.
With @UNDP and partners, timbuktoo is championing hands-on, real-time learning that empowers innovators to transform ideas into impact. It’s truly inspiring to see our cohort gaining skills, confidence, & momentum at the Manutech Hub in Ethiopia.
@mkatagaya The leaders of our country travel & come back with Zero inspiration. Someone help us open their eyes and minds to at least do the bare minimum
Thanks to @UNDPUganda for the warm welcome to the Country Office 🇺🇬
Great to see strong national leadership, a solid youth presence and a portfolio aligned with national priorities.
We discussed domestic resource mobilization, tech for jobs and how to strengthen engagement with the @_AfricanUnion and #RECs.
And this is exactly where @UNDP’s Regional Service Centre for Africa @UNDPAfrica can come in, through targeted & practical support to COs.
Youth, if equipped with the right skills, capital & networks, can become the driving force behind Africa’s economic transformation and the achievement of the #SDGs.

#NextGenUNDP#PortfolioApproach
Key takeaways from @JMartyns at the #RegionalPartnersForum.
The #PortfolioApproach is:
✅ Viable in today’s shifting aid landscape
🧭 A learning journey — not about command & control
⚠️ Not devoid of risks
📊 Driven by evidence, data & thought leadership

At the #AfricanMiningForum opening, I emphasized the need for stronger governance, value addition and equitable benefit-sharing to fully realize the #AfricaMiningVision.
The shift to a green economy brings great opportunities. Africa’s minerals must fuel industrialization and economic transformation at home, not just global supply chains. Strong governance and partnerships are key.
@UNDP remains a committed partner to the @_AfricanUnion, supporting policy frameworks and #partnerships that drive inclusive, sustainable growth.

The shift towards low-carbon, sustainable growth is in motion. The pressing question is: how can we speed it up?
Today, I facilitated a thought-provoking discussion on #Zambia's #GreenTransition, emphasizing the importance of a Whole-of-Government strategy. Key takeaways include cross-sector collaboration, innovative financing and involving non-traditional stakeholders, as highlighted by @wakiaga of @UNDPZambia.
Special thanks to @UNDP Associate Administrator @HaoliangXu for his invaluable insights.

https://t.co/WxWFSH6t09 ; Turning crisises into opportunities! Periods of crisis tend to encourage new thinking about established ways of doing things. Determining what the institutions of the Future should look like has become one of the most urgent tasks of this decade
What does the future of governance in #Africa look like? 🌍
For many at our recent event this means:
🔹A strong social contract
🔹A collective vision for #TheAfricaWeWant
🔹Stronger institutions
🔹A responsible digital ecosystem
🔹People-centred public services

How can countries emerging from governance crises rebuild trust, restore stability and create economic opportunities that build strong, inclusive futures?
Read new report “Advancing Inclusive Development: Policy Options for Burkina Faso, Guinea, Gabon, Mali and Niger” by @UNDP-@_AfricanUnion-@issafrica. The findings underscore that nations with strong institutions and inclusive economic policies are better positioned to withstand shocks and prevent backsliding into fragility.
