I frequently meet people who are surprised that Sterling Heights is MI's 4th largest city or that it's 36+ sq mi. But we are not a "bedroom community". We have an industrial corridor that spans roughly 5 square miles, which draws in a lot of workers from neighboring areas.

I bet most people do not understand the sheer size of Sterling Heights, MI, a Detroit bedroom community without an old fashioned downtown, like Warren, Livonia, etc.

It’s the fourth largest city in a large state, bigger even than my hometown of Lansing. One of the higher percentage of immigrants in the state, too, especially amongst large cities. Macomb is a diverse place.

I don’t think any municipality tops Hamtramck, though, without which two grandmas and others in our family history would not be here.

Drivers have more difficulty seeing bicyclists on the sidewalk, leading to a higher chance of a crash when turning or entering a driveway, particularly if the sidewalk is set back far from the road. Narrowing the lanes of travel subconsciously encourages drivers to drive slower.

It's great to see @sterlingheights being proactive in promoting nonmotorized transportation and protecting bicyclists. While it may seem counterintuitive, biking in the street with a dedicated bike lane is often safer than riding on the sidewalk. https://t.co/DfEOxmoigl
