For many young entrepreneurs, it isn't the quality of their product or the ambition to grow. It's navigating export regulations, meeting certification standards, accessing finance, understanding new markets, and building the right intra-Africa trade networks. With the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), young businesses have an unprecedented opportunity to reach one of the world's largest integrated markets. The challenge is no longer whether the opportunity exists—it's whether enterprises are equipped to seize it.

Recognizing this, YouthConnekt Africa has reimagined its Export Accelerator (E-Accelerator). Building on the lessons from previous cohorts, the programme has been completely revamped to move beyond seminars and workshops into a results-driven accelerator that prepares youth-led enterprises to compete, trade, and grow across African markets.

Developed in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the African Union, the revamped E-Accelerator is designed for revenue-generating, youth-led enterprises that are ready to expand beyond their domestic markets. Through export readiness diagnostics, one-on-one business advisory, compliance support, export accreditation and improved access to finance, the programme equips entrepreneurs with the tools needed to scale confidently across borders.

Today, the YouthConnekt Mano River Union Forum kicked off in Free Town, Sierra Leone convening young leaders, policymakers, development partners, entrepreneurs, and innovators from across the Mano River Union region.

The forum is bringing together participants from Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, and Côte d’Ivoire to explore pathways for youth-led development, economic transformation, and regional integration. Through high-level dialogues, knowledge-sharing sessions, entrepreneurial showcases, and collaborative discussions, the forum aims to strengthen opportunities for young people while promoting sustainable growth and cooperation across the region.

As one of the key milestones on the road to the YouthConnekt Africa Summit 2026, the MRU Forum is providing a platform for regional priorities and youth-driven solutions to contribute to the broader continental agenda, ensuring that the voices of young people continue to shape Africa's future.

Road to YouthConnekt Africa Summit 2026

As YouthConnekt Africa continues to build a continent-wide movement for youth empowerment, two active regional forums are playing a key role in advancing this mission: the YouthConnekt Mano River Union Forum, set to take place in Freetown, Sierra Leone from 18–20 June 2026, and the YouthConnekt Sahel Forum, which will be hosted in Niamey, Niger from 10–12 August 2026.

These regional forums serve as strategic platforms that bring the YouthConnekt vision closer to young people across different regions of Africa. They create opportunities for governments, development partners, private sector actors, and youth leaders to address region-specific challenges while fostering collaboration, innovation, and economic opportunities for young people.

For the YouthConnekt Africa Hub, the forums are essential in strengthening regional ownership of the YouthConnekt agenda. They help identify priorities, showcase local innovations, foster partnerships, and ensure that the voices and aspirations of young people are reflected in broader continental discussions.

As Africa looks ahead to the YouthConnekt Africa Summit 2026, these forums are helping pave the way for meaningful engagement and action. The discussions, recommendations, innovations, and partnerships emerging from these regional gatherings will contribute to shaping the conversations and outcomes of the Summit, reinforcing the collective commitment to the theme, "Shaping the Generational Mission."

Last night, the YouthConnekt Africa, together with the Government of Rwanda, UNDP, and the African Union, officially launched the journey to the 2026 YouthConnekt Africa Summit.

The event brought together partners, leaders, and key stakeholders for the unveiling of the Summit’s official theme, “Shaping the Generational Mission,” and its dates— 25th to 27th November 2026.

The evening also marked the signing of the Host Country Agreement, reaffirming Rwanda as the proud Host.

You acknowledged that France could have stopped the genocide, but did not. In response, I described your words as something more valuable than an apology: namely, the truth. This door was first opened by President Nicolas Sarkozy, and I wish to commend him today.

The Genocide against the Tutsi was foreseeable, and in fact foreseen, and France was in a unique position to observe and to act. It took too long for France to come to terms with its role, causing additional pain. And on some points, we still have not found consensus. I fully understand the feelings of those survivors and advocates, who remain dissatisfied with the official record. But I believe that our common work has initiated a journey towards truth, which is irreversible.

And France was not alone in falling short, far from it. Today, a new opportunity begins.

Applications are now open for the Member States through their respective YouthConnekt Country Chapters to submit bids to host the YouthConnekt Africa Summit 2027 with the deadline on 31st July 2026.
