Washington state man who authorities claimed killed at least 118 eagles as part of a wildlife trafficking ring has been sentenced to prison. Travis John Branson of Cusick, Washington was sentenced to three years and 10 months. He has also been ordered to pay more than $770,000 in restitution.
The trafficking ring, which operated on a Native American reservation in Montana, sold eagle fathers and parts on the black market for more than a decade. Prosecutors said the defendant and others killed at least 107 hawks and up to 3,600 birds.
The operation occurred primarily on the Flathead Indian Reservation which is said to have some of the highest concentrations of eagles and other birds of prey in the United States. Cusick pleaded guilty to conspiracy and wildlife trafficking charges in March. #News #Crime #Montana https://t.co/2xzMxuq3HN
