The older I get, the more I realize the importance of making room for nuance.
I’m incredibly cautious & skeptical of those who dogmatically advocate (bully?) stances w/o an ability to admit to the complexities of almost any major issue (social, medical, religious, etc).
The church exists for no other purpose but to draw men into Christ, to make them little Christs. If they are not doing that, all the cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. -CS Lewis
Preacher, it is okay if you are not hip, cool, or smooth. You are a herald of the gospel, not the manager of a brand. Who cares if they are not impressed with you? Your job is to point them to Jesus!
One of the most disconcerting things that can happen is to be gone from your *important* role and find that all moves on without you.
It’s also one of the most liberating.

Just finished preaching 1 of2 services. Thought of conversations with my dad (a pilot) about flying.
Concluding a Sermon is like landing a plane. The goal: land it smooth.
But sometimes you bounce it. Even veterans.
1st svc: I bounced it.
2nd: will find out shortly.
@MikeCosper The MH series is journalism at its best. Thank you, thank you, thank you. As a guy who was “all in” to the MH movement (from a distance) and has also lived shades of similar dysfunction in a smaller church, thank you for the exploration. “We all did it.”
I am often asked how to discern limits & priorities, how to balance one's being & doing.
Here's a simple guide:
-- You cannot give what you do not possess.
-- What you do matters; who you are matters more.
-- The state you are in is the state you give to others
