I'm a proud husband, father of three amazing children, chief fire officer, and former union president. I love the outdoors and am perfecting the art of napping.
@sceptre1067@HmmK88134@WedgeLIVE Feel free to do a quick google search for the following: FLSA rules regarding employees being "on call" you will be enlightened, and if your company is requiring this and not compensating you, time to file a complaint.
@SeanCarlin84@kiel_samsing Also gotta recognize the pool isn't the same people it was 20+ years ago who grew up around the "trades" and sought blue collar gigs just "because" it is what they knew.. Gotta approach the entire process and candidates differently..
@SeanCarlin84@kiel_samsing Schedule matters a LOT with current generation who has a huge value in personal time (try telling a younger candidate they get to work this job 3,000 hours a year) and be sleep deprived all the same time, etc. etc. This HINDERS recruitment as you know 🙂
@SeanCarlin84@kiel_samsing Yes, early exposure (we start with middle school) and opportunities that you haven't used in the past (Cadet pathway program) deep outreach to your communities and word to mouth help a TON.
@kiel_samsing@SeanCarlin84 This all to be said, they are out there but we may have to do things different then before (I did a hiring process almost three years ago with ~80 applicants…
@kiel_samsing@SeanCarlin84 Well I’m hiring 15 (SAFER) and with the five different categories we offered applicants to apply for we had 568 applications… we are a small suburban department in the MSP metro, 7,900 calls a year with what will be 13 on duty after the academy.
@kiel_samsing Respectfully disagree. There is _no_ reason we continue to work firefighters ~3,000 hours a year. A fourth shift does not need to equate to poor rig staffing, BOTH should be the priority. Better work life balance should be the message.
@spyderms@KarenWhitworth@WassymBensaid@RosevilleMN_FD It does keep the charger and hvac venting. The rear screen is not retained by default, as a result, my upfitter 3D printer a bezel/housing that allowed us to install the screen, etc on the rear of the new console, that was an important keep for me…
@KarenWhitworth@WassymBensaid@RosevilleMN_FD Not yet, I’ll be doing that next week along with a video.. I promised the inside development team I worked with at Rivian I’d give them some lengthy feedback on best practices for these types of projects…
@Kiel_Samsing@Rivian 😉 cost analysis puts us at cost savings over the ICE option at about the 15 month mark of use based exclusively on fuel vs electric savings.. time will tell but I’m confident in the results.
@Rivian Plenty more videos and photos to come, hopefully they will make their way from the inside team I’ve been working with to you guys, it hit the streets of our city last night for Night to Unite and was a HUGE hit!
