Amazing learning put into action by R5HS learners @d51schools as they put the final touches on their projects in preparation for tomorrow’s exhibition with a public audience. I’m honored to be working with them and the talented teachers who inspire their work. #WeAreD51
Shoutout to Principal Steinmetz & the team at R-5 High School for earning the highest academic rating in the state of Colorado as a Performance School! R-5 is our @d51schools alternative high school, and this is the first time R-5 has earned this distinction since 2017. The hard work of the students, and support & hard work of the staff, and the strong leadership at the school has helped R-5 earn this rating, and I’m so proud of them. 90% of D51 schools earned the top academic ratings in the state this year, and 2/3 of our schools earned the Performance School rating! Big things happening in D51! #WeAreD51 #TogetherWeThrive
Shoutout to R-5 High School Principal Steinmetz for always bringing the strong shoe game to work! 🔥🙌 I’m just trying to keep up with his swag! 😂 #WeAreD51#TogetherWeThrive#ShoeGameOnPoint
90% of @d51schools earned the top two academic ratings in Colorado, with 2/3 earning the highest distinction as Performance Schools. So proud of the work happening in our buildings each and every day, and it’s a great feeling being able to celebrate the academic success happening throughout D51. There is much work still to do, but it’s important to pause and celebrate the great work that is currently happening in our schools. Shoutout to our D51 students, teachers, staff, admin, & families for all of your hard work! Can’t wait to get out and celebrate with the rest of our Performance Schools soon! #WeAreD51 #TogetherWeThrive
The first week-plus of the new semester for District 51 schools has seen one noticeable difference from past years: more students conversing with each other face-to-face and participating in class discussions. https://t.co/c3YZCnPLd9
A no tax rate increase $190 million bond to address school building deficiencies in @d51schools, and a no tax rate increase MLO to extend the 2017 MLO that will sunset soon and pays for extra school days, curriculum, professional learning, and capital improvements. We have over $600 million worth of deficiencies and safety needs in our schools, and we can take care of $190 million of them without raising the tax rate. And we need to continue the 2017 MLO, without raising the tax rate, so we don’t go backwards on student achievement and teacher pay after making so many gains recently. STRONG SCHOOLS = STRONG COMMUNITY. #WeAreD51

The incredible 49th class graduated from R-5 High School today. It’s an honor and a privilege to be a part of the journies and lives of these young people. Congratulations to all of you in the class of 2024! Thank you @d51supt and @d51schools for your continued amazing support!
Congratulations to Students of the Quarter! These students were picked from our 14 middle schools and high schools. They are leaders in their schools and community. Students receive a plaque, & a $500 scholarship from Alpine Bank if they choose to attend higher education at CMU
Always look forward to meeting with my Superintendent Student Advisory Group at R-5 High School! We had the opportunity to share lunch together (shoutout to Chick-fil-A 🙌), and we continued the conversation I’ve had with my other advisory groups on the topics of responsible technology use in schools, cell phone use in particular, and the impacts of social media on our @d51schools students. I appreciate our students being open and honest with me, and shoutout to Principal @ndsteinmetz for setting it up! #WeAreD51
Declining birth rate and slower migration to Colo = public school popluation at lowest mark in decade. 1,800 fewer students this year. Most major districts down except Denver and Aurora. Enrollment won’t get back to 2020 levels until 2035.

Great meeting today with my Superintendent Student Advisory Group from R-5 High School! R-5 is our @d51schools alternative high school, which provides students with extra support when the traditional setting hasn’t worked out. Thanks to these student leaders for being open and honest in sharing about their experiences in D51, and shoutout to Principal @ndsteinmetz and the R-5 team for all that they do! #WeAreD51 #AllMeansAll
Thanks to the Grand Junction Chamber for having their Leadership Class join us today to learn about @d51schools! I was able to provide updates on the D51 Strategic Plan, and we had updates from the D51 Foundation, our finance department, our operations department, our nutrition services department, and our Board President and Vice President. Participants also got to tour the current GJHS campus and the new GJHS construction. Thanks to Principal Steinmetz for giving us a tour of R-5, thanks to Dr. Christensen and our comms team for organizing the day, and thanks to the members of the Chamber and Chamber Leadership Class for the opportunity to share about the great things happening in D51! Shoutout to the students from the Career Center culinary program for providing lunch! #WeAreD51
Thank you to the Mesa County community leaders for joining us today for the first ever @d51schools Strong Schools, Strong Community State of the District Luncheon. Our district is strengthened through hard work, focus, and community support. The state of our district is strong, and it’s growing stronger each and every day because of your support. #WeAreD51
No surprise here. Perception of public schools by folks with no kids enrolled vs families with kids enrolled. Who controls the media narrative & does it match reality? Don’t believe the hype. https://t.co/vvouVSyKga
