AI companies are purchasing large quantities of used and rare books. Scanning their contents to train models. Then turning the originals to pulp.

The sum of human thought, digitized and shredded.

Every book that gets scanned disappears from the physical world permanently. The knowledge survives only as training data inside a system no one can hold, browse, or resell.

What used to sit on a shelf for centuries now exists as weights in a model that might get deprecated next quarter.

The Dutch government is running TV ads asking citizens to limit their electricity usage between 4pm and 9pm because the grid might collapse.

This is what happens when ideology replaces engineering. The Netherlands tore down its stable, gas-based system and replaced it with intermittent wind and solar that surge and fade with the weather.

They provide no inertia, no stored energy and no steady baseline. And modern grids can't cope. Lines are overloaded. Companies can't connect. Homes and EV charges are being turned away. And operators are even shutting down wind farms to avoid surging blackouts.

The cost to the Dutch economy is estimated to be 35 billion euros a year. And growing.

The promise was clean, abundant power. The reality? One of Europe's richest nations is now effectively rationing electricity.

Our hatred for knowledge in the name of "theory" came from colonial officers. The British government considered learning anything about what they might find in the societies where they were sent was too much "theory." The officers did not look at previous experience, or anticipate future trends. That was too much theory, and they were just supposed to do guesswork and learn from experience "kwa ground."

The hatred for knowledge meant that colonialism was a life of violent troubleshooting. Officers would ignore problems until the problems were huge, and then use maximum violence in response. It also meant resistance to change. The role of the imperial civil servant was to slow down change to a snail pace. That meant doing nothing as long as people are not complaining, and if they complain too much, empty the guns on them.

And development? Oh that? Nah. They only "bring" development to you natives based on if it will shut you up you. There was nothing like a dignified life. That's why you've seen this obsession of our politicians and civil servants with concrete, law and policy. If you ask them how what they're doing fits in the larger context, they'll tell you they're solving "practical" problems.

That's why you hear a Kenyan journalist, civil servant or politician condemning knowledge, and in the next minute whining about people not decolonizing their minds. To hate knowledge is the first sign of a colonized mind. The faux British accent is bonga points.
