@thomasforth @Tom_saunders This became a super interesting and helpful thread, thanks! Agree with basically everything said - seems to me that we should be moving to HTML where appropriate and learning to make accessible pdfs where HTMLs don't work (e.g. long, complicated reports).

@thomasforth @Tom_saunders Do you know of any data on pdf vs html preference? I deal with web content devs who seem rather dogmatically committed to shifting everything to html, I think in reality it's probably 'horses for courses' but would love to be able to back that up with solid data...

I think most PhD students can and do write in accessible ways just often outside their academic work. Such activity is neither valued or paid

@RebeccaBuxton Yeah this is standard policy I think - for @UKRI_News they stop it at the end of the quarter after you submit. It's yet another exploitative characteristic of PhD finding and is not made clear when you apply for a "fully funded" programme.
