@bushidocodes Deadlifting, in particular, is not that technically challenging, and is a divinely pure antitode to sitting all day. It uses the whole chain of muscles (the posterior chain) that is getting neglected while seated. It improves posture and reminds the body how to lift things.
@bushidocodes There's a very good book on this, if you'd like more than an acquaintance's advice on X: https://t.co/sIbHdLAz1w
But, yeah, IMO, cardio's fine—better than nothing, certainly—but the quality of life benefits of lifting for strength are way bigger. Especially for pain.
@HolywoodHatesUS@dieworkwear Some of it is looking for control: you can’t do much to have a handsomer face than the one you’ve got. But you can get fit, go to the gym. We also have a food culture in the US that makes fat the default alternative to being gym fit, not lean.
I believe you (and them) though it’s bad news for me, and a very real contingent of men of a certain body type. I have never managed to be effortlessly thin, like those men. I am thick, stocky: I have been ripped and strong and plump and strong and those are really my two choices.
I still don’t understand how this argument deals with the fact that humans learn the same way. We, too, rely on learning from all the art that already exists in the world.
The core problem gen AI video will never get away from is that it is wholly dependent on stolen work by artists, filmmakers, and those of you who posted videos of your loved ones online.
It cannot function without this theft. That disqualifies it as a “tool.” It is theft and everyone who uses it is a thief.
@MonicaBaumann@tracewoodgrains I’m a geriatric millennial and that fits me. I voted for GW Bush, but then for Kerry and the number one issue was torture. Then Obama really solidified my shift left. I’ve gotten more centrist in the years since, but I’m not in any danger of being on the right.
I don't think it's possible to see the kind of competitor Sinner is and imagine that he's rooting for his primary nemesis to drop out with an injury. He cares about continuing to push, to grow, and beating Alcaraz at his best. It means that even if he wins the whole thing (a huge achievement), it won't come with the same weight that it would have with Alcaraz there. So, sure, maybe he feels some relief. But I doubt it feels great.
And by "should," I don't know that we should argue with individual people. But it may show that we're valuing the wrong things in our culture if a lot of people think they're better off without children.
The consolation, in my forties, of being a parent in terms of the meaning of my life is difficult to overstate. I think our culture should accept and support people who don't want children as absolutely fine edge cases: but it's not what the majority of humans should choose.
Fear of marriage and kids is like fear of bungee jumping. Only after you go through the experience you realize you had nothing to fear and the whole thing is actually pretty awesome
@filip_hric That's a helpful analogy in that it *is* scary, and it helps to have a culture that's telling you, "Hey. Don't worry. This will be hard, but it will be worth it."
