Our mission to Decarbonise Pilot Training requires collaboration across the aviation industry while embracing innovation, and the @TheSMI - demonstrated exactly how that future is being built.

NEBOair was delighted to be invited to attend the Sustainable Markets Initiative Roundtables & Exhibition 2026 at Hampton Court Palace last week.

Founded by His Majesty King Charles III, the Sustainable Markets Initiative brings together global leaders from business, finance and innovation to accelerate the transition to a sustainable global economy through to 2030.

Inspired by the legacy of the 1851 Great Exhibition, the summit featured more than 30 exhibitions demonstrating tangible progress across sectors including energy, aerospace, advanced materials and sustainable infrastructure.

For NEBOair, it was incredibly special to attend alongside @Aerobility . Following the recent placement of a Velis Electro into their fleet, kindly sponsored by @4Air_aero , it was a privilege to invite them to share this moment with us and to showcase how zero-emission aviation can support both sustainability and accessibility in flight experiences and training.

Highlights of the event included meeting Major Tim Peake CMG, exploring GeoPura’s hydrogen power systems which powered the summit using green hydrogen, and engaging with many inspiring organisations across the Sustainable Markets community.

However, the greatest privilege was meeting His Majesty King Charles III and having the opportunity to discuss the Velis Electro and Aerobility’s remarkable work changing the lives of people with disabilities through the magic of flight.

Attending alongside Mike Miller-Smith (CEO, Aerobility) and Al Rosser (Service Delivery Director & Chief Flying Instructor, Aerobility) made the occasion particularly meaningful as we continue working together toward a shared mission.

Together with Aerobility, flying schools and flying clubs across the UK, we are demonstrating how innovation, accessibility and sustainability can shape the future of aviation.

The decarbonisation of pilot training is no longer a concept — it is a capability, and it is already taking flight.

The UK speaks confidently about the road to Jet Zero.

Pilot training is one of the few areas of aviation where zero-emission flight is already operational. In the UK, that capability is not theoretical. It exists. It is certified. And it is flying.

@NebOair operates the UK’s only fleet of fully electric, commercially certified training aircraft — supporting flying schools across the country to deliver zero-emission flight training at scale. We are the second-largest fleet in Europe!

At the centre of this capability is the @Pipistrel Aircraft Velis Electro, to date the world’s first and only fully electric aircraft to achieve commercial type certification — developed specifically for primary flight training.
It delivers:

• A significantly reduced noise footprint around airfields
• Lower operating costs than conventional piston trainers
• A proven international training platform

This is not a future concept or aspirational roadmap.
It is operational capability, available today.
It is one of the only certified, scalable zero-emission aviation solutions currently operating in the UK.

Through our collaboration with RAFSA Moray Flying Club, based at RAF Lossiemouth, we have demonstrated that electric aircraft can operate effectively within one of the UK’s most active frontline RAF environments.

Equally, through our collaboration with @SaxonAir Training, based at Norwich Airport, we have demonstrated that electric aircraft can operate effectively within an international airport environment.
If it can operate effectively in these environments, it can operate effectively at any airport or airfield across the UK.

If the UK is serious about its wider Net Zero commitments, pilot training is the logical place to formalise a national decarbonisation pathway.
It reduces emissions immediately.
It strengthens future-focused aviation skills.
It demonstrates credible clean aviation leadership.
And it is deployable now.

The capability exists.
The aircraft are certified.
The operational experience is proven.
The question is whether we choose to lead.
