9 Arrested, 85 Charges Laid in Halton Police's Largest Human Trafficking Investigation

A ten-month human trafficking investigation spanning the Greater Toronto Area has led to the largest human trafficking case in the history of the Halton Regional Police Service, resulting in nine arrests and 85 criminal charges.

Dubbed Project Troubadour, the investigation began in September 2025 after a woman came forward to police alleging she had been exploited. Working alongside Peel Regional Police, the Ontario Provincial Police, and with support from Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario (CISO), investigators uncovered what they allege was a sophisticated trafficking network operating throughout the GTA.

Police allege the accused used coercion, deception, manipulation, and psychological abuse to control victims and profit from their sexual exploitation. Investigators identified 12 victims who were subjected to commercial sexual exploitation over an extended period.

On July 13, 2026, investigators executed 10 Criminal Code search warrants at residences across the GTA, leading to the arrest of nine individuals.

During the raids, police seized a significant amount of alleged proceeds of crime, including a Lamborghini Urus, a Mercedes-Benz S550, a Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, two Sea-Doo GTR personal watercraft, approximately $30,000 in Canadian and U.S. currency, an estimated $450,000 worth of luxury jewelry, electronic devices, and quantities of cocaine, cannabis, oxycodone, and psilocybin.

A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the 2023 murder of Mississauga pizza delivery driver Gurvinder Nath (pictured right).

Devaunte Thompson (pictured left), 26, of Caledon has been charged in connection with the killing of the 24-year-old, who was attacked, robbed of his vehicle, and left on the side of the road near Britannia and Creditview in the early hours of July 9, 2023.

Nath later died of his injuries at a trauma centre. The first suspect, Jazaine Kerr, was arrested in February 2024.
