maybe that's where the idea of liminal spaces originated. I'm sure there's some overlap with vaporwave but it wouldn't surprise me if liminal spaces is a subset of hauntology.
I thought it was pretty cool that the director of Backrooms is super into Boards of Canada and I honestly couldn't find a more fitting band for the movie. Their work largely centers around Derrida's hauntology, and I guess now that I think about it
It's so good. It's like found footage meets Cabin in the Woods meets the collective unconscious and I don't even remember what movies I was thinking of when I first watched it but it's like a film that took all the good elements out of good horror movies and put into one movie.
I want to do something too but I think I'm going to focus on a color study of a scene that particularly stood out to me as a sort of recap of Mary's childhood. Lots of liminal stuff going on in the movie and I will def check out the YouTube series as well.
Aaaa this is so goooood. His Backrooms self disturbed me (which is a good thing because nothing has ever really creeped me out since Bob and that's just because Bob is an interdimensional shapeshifter of sorts or the evil that lurks in the hearts of men).
Catching up with Summer Game Fest and hell yeah! I played Guild Wars back on PC when I was younger but since I don't really play on PC anymore I haven't been able to play the games but I'm glad to hear they are releasing Guild Wars 3 on PS5.
I was so relieved to hear that no gen AI was used to make the movie because if you go anywhere on the internet 75% of all liminal space images are AI generated lmao. Gives me hope.
Backrooms hits a nerve because it’s so much more than a character study. It’s about the inhumanity of Generative AI, it’s about Hysterial Covid Claustrophobia and about the creepiness of living among the ruins of another age. It’s also just really funny. 9/10
Me in phase 7 of UMAD, Kefka is at 24%, the arena has changed to my housing district, Kefka says if we fail the enrage he demolishes my house, next mechanic resolution is to limit cut in the mirrored shape of the World of Ruin from FF6, Hoary Boulder's LB4 shield is nearly broken
Steven Spielberg says it’s been fantastic to see the success of ‘OBSESSION’ and ‘BACKROOMS’.
“I think it’s great that they had basically very little money, especially ‘Obsession’ that had under $1M and ‘Backrooms’ had maybe $10M or $9M. They're doing so well and I applaud them
I haven't seen ‘Backrooms’, I’m going to see it when all this is over but I have seen ‘Obsession’ and I loved it.”
