- Why do some teams vastly outperform others?
- Why do many companies get middling results, despite investing in their cultures?
- Why has job-hopping been the rule in tech, not an exception?
I touch on these topics in this new post. Check it out!

@ciembor Society is just a large collection of us, of people choosing what they value and what they don't. If you think you know better what they should value, then educate.
Seen this pattern before?
You build a relationship with a great engineer. You convince them to join. Everyone gets excited and believes things will work out great…
@ciembor There are many things I'd like to have, but will not pay for because I judge their value to me to be lower than the cost (in money or time). Being paid to build something requires also finding enough people who value it above the cost.
My first boss, David Remnick, interviews Stephen Kotkin, the king of Soviet history and the reason I went into this whole Russia business, and the result does not disappoint. Holy shit.

What are the Roots of War?
The answer was written in 1966.
“When a statist ruler exhausts his own country’s economy, he attacks his neighbors. It is his only means of postponing internal collapse and prolonging his rule.”

After one of my @CNN appearances, one of the anchors asked me off-air why I had confidence in Ukraine's army to push back agains the illegal Russian military onslaught.
I used a bit of "battlefield math" to explain my rationale. 1/16
@josephjconnor To be a great teacher, one needs to be a great learner.
I believe the transformative EdTech company of tomorrow will be making everyone a great learner.
Math and science education is particularly important for social mobility, because proficiency in these subjects is much harder to fake. A semi-smart rich kid can learn how to sound like he knows a lot about literature, but this is impossible with math.
Just attended @mattmochary's free public class. Listening to Matt makes it seem like it’s possible to run a company where everything is warm and fuzzy. I suspect this is not quite the case.
