Kevin Maguire: "After the attack on the Liverpool football parade & it was a white guy, middle class, former royal marine, no-one went after other white, middle class former marines & set this person represents that entire group"
Ever wondered where your tax money actually goes? 💷
@BBCNews broke it down by imagining we each handed the Government £100.
Here’s how that £100 was spent in 2023–24:
£22 → NHS
£6 → Defence
£10 → Education
£10 → Debt interest
£11.40 → State pensions
£4.15 → Working-age welfare (PIP, Universal Credit, health support)
£0.50 → Asylum system
£0.70 → Overseas aid
What strikes me most is this: immigration dominates headlines and public debate, consistently ranking as one of the nation’s top concerns — yet the asylum system accounts for just 0.5% of public spending.
A reminder that sometimes the loudest issues aren’t the largest ones.
#Budget2026
2016: Nigel Farage, "The worst case scenario economically, is better. than where we are today"
2020: Boris Johnson, "Prosper nightly remains an extremely good description of life after January 1st"
2025: Bloomberg, "Brexit Hit to UK Economy Double Official estimate"
National Bureau of Economic Research Study:
⬇️ GDP down 8%
⬇️ Investment down 18%
⬇️ Employment down 4%
⬇️ Productivity down 4%
🔻£35 billion lost in Income tax & NI
🔻£25 billion lost in VAT
🔻£15 billion lost in Corporation tax
🆘 Estimated loss in tax revenue is £75 billion per year
What have we got after Brexit?
£4.8 billion for 🇮🇳 Indian-UK
£2.3 billion for 🇦🇺 Australia-UK
£0.8 billion for 🇳🇿 New Zealand-UK
£9.0 billion for 🇪🇺 EU reset with UK
🆘 £16.9 billion - Current best case scenario by 2040
The reason taxes will go up, and spending will be cut, again, is because Brexit is making us poorer
Today, former UKIP, former Reform UK, Nathan Gill, who admitted taking bribes to do what Farage and Johnson did for free: talk down the EU, will be sentenced
➡️The UK has always been a sovereign nation; just as every EU nation is a sovereign nation, they just chose to work together for the greater good
➡️The UK has always had control of our borders. Even within the EU the UK could remove any EU citizen e.g. if they were a danger, or didn't contribute
➡️ Poverty an austerity were not caused by the EU, they were caused by the Conservative party underfunding public services
➡️ And when the UK left the EU, to make up for the freedom of people that provided temporary workers to the UK, Boris Johnson's point based system approved visas for 3.5 million legal migrants, he did that without investing in public services. Not the fault of immigrants but of the UK government exercising their Brexit freedoms
So the UK can carry on believing populists that will say whatever angers swathes of the population to get power and influence, like Farage or Johnson
Or the UK can acknowledge that Farage's and Johnson's Brexit ideology has not only been a disaster, but it has been the opposite of what both of them promised
If we want the economy to grow faster, if we want to cut taxes, and increase spending, the sooner we boost our economic growth by rejoining the European Union, the better
Starmer’s popularity right now is staggering.
Voters overwhelmingly prefer him as PM over every other party leader, according to a new YouGov poll.
And there’s more good news for Labour:
@AngelaJDennis@LeahFHardy@peterrhague What do you suggest to change it? It’s a human error at the end of the day……so how do you improve it?
Granted The whole management system needs attention in the background
If anyone is still wondering why we have a £22bn black hole here is just one example of Tory incompetence. Never ever allow them to again say “taxpayers money is safe with them”
@Patrick_Barlow_ @jimhamilton4 There’s other sports out there that do exactly what you like (tag rugby, netball, basketball) - don’t change this sport to suit your tastes and vision?
I agree with the increase/increasing safety btw
@brimlesspallar @Cowpat_No_9@bardino_dean@studio1st Also which part of Socialist polkicyvdont you like? 40 hour working week, sick pay, holidays? Shall I go on?
@brimlesspallar @Cowpat_No_9@bardino_dean@studio1st Splitting hairs, Social Democratic society’s. They’re capitalist societies that utilise the ethical elements of Socialism
