The Nepal–Tibet floods are truly horrific. My deepest condolences to every family that has lost someone, and my prayers are with those still waiting for news of their loved ones.

Please show compassion in what you share online. Some videos show people in their final moments. They were someone’s mother, father, sister, brother, son or daughter. Their families should never have to discover or relive their loss through social media.

Let dignity come before views and forwards.

This tragedy has also shaken me personally. My parents were meant to undertake this yatra but cancelled at the last minute.

Now that the 131st Amendment Bill failed, allocation of Lok Sabha seats will be based on 2026 census data.

As per current estimates, seven States will likely lose 35 seats: AP (-5), Telangana (-3), TN (-10), Karnataka (-2), Kerala (-7), Odisha (-4), and WB (-4).

Four States will likely gain 34 seats: UP (+12), Bihar (+10), MP (+5), and Rajasthan (+7).

BJP is widely believed to be the potential beneficiary of redistribution of seats to States based on 2026 population.

In a stunning act of self-denial, the NDA government came forward to freeze the current share of States based on the 1971 census data. There could be many reasons for BJP committing to such a freeze - putting the nation above the party, paving the way for expanding their footprint in the South, or avoiding a divisive issue when the nation has to focus on growth and prosperity in the face of global challenges. Whatever be the motivation of BJP, the seven States that lost share of population are offered an unexpected gift. You don't look a gift horse in the mouth!

Surprisingly, the parties which have great stakes in the South and East have scored a spectacular self goal. This is a classic case of cutting the nose to spite the face.

In 2001, as the freeze in seats was expiring, I was deeply involved in persuading the then Vajpayee government to continue the freeze in the number of seats allocated to States for another 25 years. An unwieldy coalition and the economic challenge posed by external sanctions after the Pokharan explosion demanded national unity, and the parties responded with the 84th Amendment. Now again a priceless opportunity arose, and the Opposition squandered it without any strategic thinking.

If political animosity makes you oblivious of your own interest, or larger interests of fostering unity and focusing on growth and harmony, it is a sign of dysfunctional politics.

I appeal to all parties to come together and find a harmonious solution to the thorny problem of seats allocation in the face of demographic imbalances. National unity and our quest for opportunity and prosperity for all demand a fair and swift resolution.

In the long run migration will resolve the imbalances. Already millions of migrant workers are building and sustaining the economies of several States in the South, West and North. That is why, despite low fertility rate, Maharashtra's share of the population is increasing.
In the US, dramatic internal migration changed the demography and representation over the years. People move freely to States where there is growth and jobs are created. In a century, Florida increased its representation in the US Congress from 4 to 28, California from 11 to 52, Texas from 18 to 38, and Washington from 5 to 10. Owing to outward migration, New York lost seats, from 43 to 26, Pennsylvania from 36 to 17, Illinois from 27 to 17, Ohio from 22 to 15, and Missouri from 16 to 8.

We should make it easy for people to migrate to other States and recognize and respect their constitutional rights everywhere and make their life easier and safe. That will resolve our demographic challenges. Most states reached low fertility levels, and Bihar, UP, MP, Rajasthan and Jharkhand too are going to reach there in a few years.

We need a reasoned and pragmatic approach to grow together and become strong. Let us persuade parties to shed inflammatory and divisive rhetoric and focus on quality education and skills and opportunities for all.

The strength of Indian 🇮🇳 democracy - inspiring conversation.

India is the only major former UK colony who became and has remained a democracy. This is not thanks to the Brits, but to the inner strength of Indian society.

India has formed a remarkable united state with a strong sense of being Indian. This is a great feat given its diversity in geography, language, culture and traditions. There is less violence in India than in nearly any other corner of the world.

I had a compelling discussion with Dr. Salvatore Babones, author of “Dharma Democracy”. He unpacks how global rankings—especially on democracy, religious freedom, and media—are often shaped by anti Indian bias.

I emphasized how the strong cultural and moral foundation of the hindu dharma has helped shape Indian views on non violence, Mother Earth and statecraft.

Dharma - the concept of duty—has contributed to stability and unity in a diverse nation.

Prime Minister @narendramodi and the people of India once again uphold the Neighborhood First policy through the timely shipment of 38,000 tonnes of petroleum to Sri Lanka.

India has consistently stood as Sri Lanka’s first responder in times of crisis, from critical supplies to economic assistance, which is a true reflection of its Neighborhood First policy. As a region, it is key that countries work together as strategic partners for the betterment of the region.

We call upon the Sri Lanka Government to consider a model similar to India’s recent fuel tax adjustment. India reduced excise duty not to immediately lower prices, but to stabilize the market and prevent further increases during global oil price shocks.

As Sri Lanka moves forward, the government must also strengthen its own economic policies. While fiscal discipline is important, reducing excessive tax burdens, as seen in India’s more growth-oriented approach, could help stimulate investment, ease pressure on citizens, and support long-term recovery.

A clear reminder that strong partnerships must be built and protected, not politicised.

In March 2026, in response to a defamation case filed by Isha in 2024, the Delhi High Court issued an order directing media outlet Nakkheeran to remove all defamatory videos and articles it published against Isha Foundation and Sadhguru. 
Tired rehashings of these salacious allegations, amplified by other malicious entities, have been repeatedly dismissed by the courts, police investigations and government enquiries. The latest order reaffirms what Isha has consistently maintained: that these allegations are untrue, and part of a motivated, long-running attempt to mislead the public and damage the reputation of Isha and Sadhguru.

There’s been a Raisina Dialogue in Delhi every March since 2016. It’s the brainchild of Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Narendra Modi’s long-serving foreign minister. Like other global gatherings, it brings together political leaders, senior military commanders, prominent business people, leading journalists, and think tank chiefs to discuss key issues; but it’s better than Davos because it’s not so dominated by politically correct plutocrats; and better than the longer-running Chinese Boao Forum, because it not essentially an exercise in homage to the host government.

The book that debunks the negative “India rankings”.

Certain Western institutions frequently make rankings which put India 🇮🇳 low on democracy. Salvatore Babones shows in “Dharma democracy” how mistaken this anti Indian propaganda is.

The exact opposite is the case. India is a remarkably resilient democracy - in fact the only major former UK colony which became and has remained a democracy. Its sometimes claimed that the Brits taught India democracy. If that was the case why isn’t Myanmar or Pakistan or the Gulf kingdoms democracies??? Reality is that Indian democracy is both homegrown and extraordinary successful.

One ranking claimed that India is an “oppressive, electoral autocracy” and ranked India 161 out of 180 nations - behind one party states and states where the president gets 95% of the vote. This is of course ridiculous and Babones explains how the entire methodology is totally flawed.

Another ranking claimed it’s very dangerous to be a journalist in India. Reality is that it is more dangerous to be journalist in the US and far more dangerous in the vast majority of other nations in the world.

Yet another ranking claimed freedom of expression in India lags behind Gaza, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Give me a pause! Babones exposes the sick methodology.

The book also shows that the claim that BJP is less democratic than Congress doesnt stand up to scrutiny.

Reality is that India today is more democratic than the US. It’s the relatively poor, religious, non western state which proves that democracy is not a Western idea. Let’s celebrate dharma democracy!

I have been receiving life-threatening calls and abusive messages against me and my family after the TV program I hosted about the Iran-US-Israel situation. In that program, I clearly said that our national interest must come first and that nothing should be done that harms the country or disturbs law and order.
Since then, some people have started calling me, challenging me to “come out if you have guts,” and spreading videos and posts against me on social media. Threatening someone for expressing a viewpoint about national interest is unacceptable.
I want to state this again, clearly and firmly: Nation first. National interest above everything else. Violence, intimidation, and abuse will not silence anyone who speaks for peace, stability, and the country.
I request the authorities to take note of the threats being made openly on social media and through calls. My family should not be targeted for my professional work. I will continue to speak responsibly and stand for what is right for the nation.
