Is the Foreshore becoming somewhat of a “second” Cape Town CBD?🌊🏙️

The Foreshore is between the City Centre and the Port and has excellent highway access. Over a century ago, the entire area was submerged under the ocean. Between 1930 and 1945, almost 200 hectares of new land was reclaimed from the sea to create the Foreshore precinct. Even on the world stage, this was a pretty maverick project for its time.

I loved catching up with one of my favourite Cape Town Architects, Robert Silke as he took me on a tour of his latest project, Zeeland Pier. It is fascinating to see the development currently happening in the Foreshore #CapeTown CBD. Today, multiple new redevelopment projects line the main roads within the Foreshore. With few limits on heritage and zoning laws, Zeeland Pier is one of the more exciting city redevelopment opportunities currently under construction.

Zeeland Pier is situated next to the recently renovated Radisson. I also visited the Radisson; it looks fabulously modern inside, with bountiful bouclé and other warm interior design elements. The CTICC has a record-breaking number of bookings over the next three years. This and increased tourism in Cape Town will see plenty of demand for those needing a short-term stay. Keep an eye on the upcoming demand for residential units in this area.

Foreshore real estate always has nautical nuances in interior design and an art deco vibe in #architecture. Naturally, the ocean bordering the suburb is the main inspiration for the look and feel within the walls of Zeeland Pier. The interiors include new firsts for finishes, such as sea-ship-style circular windows and fish-scale tile designs on shower floors.

I also love that the building’s anatomy is based on a hotel’s. However, residents don’t have to rely on a hotel operator to use modern amenities. All amenities, which include a co-working space, business center, gym, and heated indoor-outdoor pool, are for exclusive use by residents only. This means no access to outside guests or conflict of interest between #business operators.

The video was filmed just a year and a half before the tragedy at Apalachee High School.
