From “Kandanavōlu” (Telugu: కందనవోలు) – a bustling groundnut oil hub on the Tungabhadra River. Bullock carts laden with kandulu (groundnuts) halted here for oil extraction before river crossings. British rule simplified it to Kurnool.

🏛️ Historical Legacy:
Ancient Crossroads: Ruled by Cholas, Chalukyas, Vijayanagara Empire (Krishnadevaraya’s fortress ruins still stand!), and Nawabs of Kurnool (their palace, Konda Reddy Fort, is a must-see).

First Capital of Andhra State (1953–56): Briefly the political heart before Hyderabad took over.
