I saw a public argument by some religious leaders about the sequence of events that will happen at the end of the world.
I was struck by the hubris and uselessness of it all; who argues about something they can never prove until it’s too late?
Here’s the key:
Jesus told us that the central command is for us to love God and our neighbor and I would think that would be enough hard work for anyone.
Our concept of love is so broken, so limited…In the name of love, we cheer on sin and call it acceptance, we spew our bile and call it correcting the sinner.
Love is what we should be thinking of, discussing and praying about.
Love should be our obsession.
Heavenly Father, let me never be content with my weak understanding of love. Refinance, grow it, change me so that each day my love looks more like yours.

Once you are baptized and confirmed as a Catholic you cannot decide that you no longer want to be a Catholic. You can apostatize, go into heresy and schism and live in mortal sin, but you are still a Catholic because baptism and confirmation impose an indelible mark on your character. You can therefore strive to be a faithful Catholic and continue on the path to heaven by God's good grace or you can choose the path that leads to destruction.

William A. Galston, former deputy assistant for domestic policy to U.S. President Bill Clinton, spent decades analyzing poverty data. His conclusion: To give yourself the best chance of success, do three things: graduate high school, wait until you’re 20 to have children, and marry before you have your first child.

It sounds simple, but the numbers are staggering. You’ve got a 97% chance of staying out of poverty if you follow this path. Tell your kids. Tell your teenagers. Tell anyone who needs hope and direction.

And if you didn't follow this path, your past doesn’t get the final word. God does, and He’s in the business of redemption. You may have a tougher road, but with discipline, sacrifice, and a clear plan, you can still win.
