I’ll never forget the day my friend’s father found out that his son is gay...
My friend had been wanting to tell him for days. Finally, one day at the dinner table, he said:
“Dad, I’m attracted to men.”
There was suddenly complete silence at the table.
My friend’s father couldn’t believe it at first.
“What kind of nonsense are you talking about?”...1/2
My friend didn’t back down this time.
“I’m not saying anything wrong. This is who I am. I didn’t want to hide it from you.”
His father pushed his chair back in anger.
“You’re my son. How can you say something like this?”
His mother started crying. I just looked at my friend. He had finally said out loud what he had been keeping inside for years.
His father kept shouting:
“What will people say? How did we raise you?”
For the first time, my friend stood up to his father:
“I couldn’t be myself because I was always worried about what people would say, Dad! What did I do wrong?”
The argument quickly got worse. My friend pushed his father, and his father hit him.
His mother stepped between them.
“Stop! He’s your child!”
As I tried to protect my friend, his father pointed toward the door and said:
“Get out of this house! From today, you are no longer my son.”
Tears filled my friend’s eyes.
He said:
“Dad, I just didn’t want to lose you…”
But his father turned away from him.
His mother hugged my friend and kept pleading with his father:
“Please don’t do this. He’s your child.”
But his father had already made up his mind.
“I don’t have a son like that.”
My friend went to his room to pack a few things.
I went to him.
He said:
“Brother, what did I do wrong? I only told the truth.”
I hugged him.
Just as my friend was about to leave the house, his mother fainted.
On one side, I was trying to take care of his mother, and on the other, I didn’t want my friend to leave.
But he said just one thing:
“I can’t live here hating myself every day.”
That night, my friend stayed with me.
His father still isn’t speaking to him.
His mother feels like her family is falling apart while she is trying to protect her child.
And I honestly don’t know what to do.
How can we support my friend and his mother? What do you think we should do in a situation like this?

We are very concerned for Abdul. His father has died at the hands of goons who allegedly belong to the BJP. What was his crime? That he planned on conducting a social audit of his local government school. Abdul, entire CJP family is with you. We will not rest until those goons are brought to justice! @WBPolice, do your job immediately.
Abdul went to inspect the govt school in Bengal where he once studied. He lost his father after they were attacked by goons (allegedly from BJP) for speaking up about the poor condition of govt schools.
It makes my blood boil that people are being murdered simply for demanding better schools.
CJP stands firmly with Abdul and his family. We demand the immediate arrest of those responsible for his father’s death. A CJP team will visit West Bengal and ensure that Abdul and his family get justice.
And to the hatemongers who think they can silence us through violence: we are not going to back off. Attack our members, threaten us, try to intimidate us, we will only fight harder.
We will not be silenced. We will not be intimidated. We will keep fighting for better schools.
