🚨Alan Shearer on Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire missing the World Cup:
“Luke Shaw missing out makes some sense because he’s been injured for almost the whole season. But Harry Maguire? Come on, you’ve got to be kidding me. What exactly is Thomas Tuchel thinking?
Who is better than Maguire right now? Seriously, tell me. Every time England need someone to defend properly, win aerial duels, organise the backline, and fight for the badge, Maguire is there. People laugh, people criticise, but when the pressure comes, he always stands up.
Football is about performances, consistency, character, and experience. And whether people like it or not, Harry Maguire gives you all of that.
You cannot tell me there are many English centre-backs performing better than him right now. Impossible. At Manchester United, whenever he plays, you see leadership, aggression, and composure. He doesn’t hide. Some players disappear when things get difficult — Maguire doesn’t.
Leaving him out of the World Cup? For me, that’s a massive gamble. In tournament football, you need warriors, leaders, players with personality. Harry Maguire has proven that many times for England.
I really don’t understand this decision at all.”

Here's a brilliant story that Lee Sharpe told about Paul Scholes:
🗣 "Senior pros (Bryan Robson, Steve Bruce, Peter Schmeichel, Brian McClair) always used to watch the third team, and Scholes was playing. Robson turns to the manager and says 'Who are you keeping, who are you letting go?' and he obviously said 'We're keeping Beckham, Butt, Neville, this lad, this lad, this lad's going, and we're not sure about the little red-head in midfield.'
Then Scholesy gets the ball on the edge of the box, fakes to shoot and drags it, defender slides past him, fakes to shoot again and drags it, another midfielder slides past him, shuffles between the two centre-halves, fakes to shoot, keeper goes down onto one knee and Scholesy scoops it and dinks it into the bottom corner.
Robson turns to the manager and says 'Are you sure you know what you're talking about?'"

🚨 Roy Keane on how they played football under sir Alex Ferguson:
“We didn’t play football under Fergie, we hunted. The moment teams saw us in the tunnel, you could feel the fear already setting in. They knew what was coming.
You want to man-mark me? Fine. Then who’s stopping Ronaldo? Who’s dealing with Tevez snapping at your heels for 90 minutes? And behind us was a midfield full of absolute animals who never stopped running, tackling, pressing.
There was no peace against that Manchester United side. No easy minutes. No mercy.
Fergie didn’t build a team of players, he built killers with a winning mentality. That’s why opponents folded before the first whistle even blew.”
