Four Years On, Dehradun Takes to the Streets for Ankita Bhandari

On the fourth anniversary of Ankita Bhandari’s death, people took to the streets of Dehradun once again, demanding justice and faster progress in the investigation.

Several social organisations gathered at Gandhi Park and marched to Clock Tower, raising their voices for Ankita and demanding that the CBI expedite the investigation.

Four years have passed, but for Ankita’s family and those demanding justice, the passage of time has not erased the questions surrounding the case.

Ankita may no longer be here, but her name continues to bring people together on the streets of Uttarakhand.

Four years later, the questions remain.
So does the demand for justice.

A Para SF veteran is fighting a very different battle today.

Col Anurag Upadhyay scored in the 99th percentile in CAT but chose the Indian Army over a corporate career. He volunteered for the Special Forces, completed probation with 3 PARA (SF) and became part of the raising team of 12 PARA (SF).

After suffering a severe stroke in August 2025, he is now living with Locked-in Syndrome. His body has been severely affected, but his mind remains conscious and aware.

His family is seeking connections with neurologists, neuro-rehabilitation specialists, researchers, BCI experts and assistive-technology teams who may be able to explore new possibilities for his recovery and communication.

This is not an appeal for sympathy. It is an appeal to reach the right people.

Judge Diwakar, who was transferred after awarding 22 death sentences, has now sentenced another man Nadeem to death for setting his 23-year-old wife, Shahzadi, on fire during a dispute in 2018.

In his judgment, he wrote: “I would prefer death rather than get called a coward judge. I would serve only if I could follow my principles, otherwise I would resign.”

Another powerful reminder that a judge’s courage can matter as much as the law itself.

Whenever I feel sad about youth taunting, or abusing the security forces, I remember this video.

During Op Sindoor last year, the Chandigarh administration called for Civil Defence Volunteers as the city's second line of defense for emergency and disaster response. Thousands of young men and women turned up, purely as unpaid volunteers.

The turnout far exceeded expectations. As the crowd spilled onto the roads shouting pro-Army and anti-Pakistan slogans, police had to step in, call reinforcement and open a parallel site at Tiranga Urban Park to handle the registration and orientation rush.

This reflects the true spirit of our youth and their deep respect for the country and the armed forces. For every "We're GenZ, we will not tolerate this nonsense. They (soldiers) get paid from our tax money, they are not more important than us" individual, there are lakhs of youth ready to step up.

Truly heartbreaking to watch videos like this.

In Singra village, Salt, Saraswati Devi had to be carried on people’s shoulders for nearly 2.5 km through a difficult uphill path to reach the road.

It took the villagers more than four hours.

She is one of the many women who have spent their entire lives in these mountains, raising families, working the land and keeping their villages alive.

And when age and illness finally make them dependent on others, this is the reality they are left with.

The village has reportedly been demanding a road for years. Today, only around 20–22 people remain, while many others have migrated.

They spent their lives holding these mountains together. The least they deserve in their old age is a road to a hospital.

Two pictures. One development model.

One picture shows a husband carrying his sick wife for miles because a road has still not reached their village. No ambulance. No vehicle. Just his back and a long walk to the hospital.

The other shows the state cutting through old, green forests to widen roads that are already wide enough.

And this is where the question becomes uncomfortable.

Why can development reach forests overnight, but not villages that have waited for roads for decades?

Why are mountains being cut to make already wide roads wider, while people in places like Kamliyapalla, Pauri are still struggling to reach a hospital?

If this is our development model, perhaps we need to ask a very simple question:

Development for whom?

All of you must have heard about the Kejriwal transforming govt schools in Delhi, even if he actually didn't. That's how marketing works, make enough noise, even if you don't do the work, and people will believe that you did.

Madhya Pradesh is the exact opposite of that. Good things are happening here, but because the state doesn't project or advertise them loudly, only the negative news gets out, creating an impression that everything happening in the state is bad.

For example, check out the Sandipani Vidyalaya initiative aimed at overhauling govt schools. Instead of simply throwing funds at infrastructure, the overhaul focuses on building high-tech digital classrooms, providing free bus transportation for kids from remote villages, and deeply investing in academic leadership. They have equipped school principals with structured operational handbooks, trained thousands of teachers with modern pedagogical tools, and set up 368 schools that currently serve over 4.4 lakh students.

The results from these efforts are impressive. Over the last four years, Class 10 board pass rates at Sandipani Vidyalayas jumped from 68.2% in 2022–23 all the way up to 88% in 2025–26, alongside a more than 28% increase in students graduating with first-division honors. Similarly, Class 12 pass rates shot up from 59% to 87% over the same period. In 2026 alone, 41 Class 10 students and 17 Class 12 students across all streams secured positions on the State Merit List. Even in the Tribal Affairs Dept's Sandipani schools, Class 10 and 12 pass rates hit an impressive 89.54% and 85.72%, respectively. And best part, zero drop rate.

Building on this success, they are now planning to open another 405 schools in Phase 2. Seeing govt schools deliver such measurable academic growth without all the usual political noise is great. Hope this momentum keeps going!

Dainik Bhaskar journalist went undercover as a laborer in a flour mill in UP and exposed a rotten system that's playing with people's health.

Operators in mills across Agra, Firozabad are mixing stone powder from Rajasthan into atta, increasing their earnings by 70–80 paise per kg i.e. 7k-8k extra per day. These adulterated flour, sold under brands like Maharaja Bhog Atta, is even reaching school mid-day meals. These calcium carbonate can clog intestines and damage the liver and kidneys.

Being in the D2C industry, I'm aware of many brands who do these kinds of things just to save margins and make more money. We keep calling them out, but this looks much bigger.

Government and FSSAI need to act and take control. Consumer health should never be compromised for profit.
