@speerman42 @BreederBenBeyer Most people don’t understand just how much yield potential you lose in a situation like that. When a plant dies from heat and drought stress prematurely, you lose what ever the moisture content is in weigh. SomeIrrigated corn here looked like that after a week of 105 in June.

@JeremyWMiller3 @PioneerSeeds Corn is only a good double crop option for us when the price gets close to $6. We have a cool fall/good crop, and think we figured it out. Then the next year we say never again…until the price starts to go up. 2012-some made 200bu @ $7. Then made 120 at $3.50 in 2013-14

@JeremyWMiller3 @PioneerSeeds What I picked today was 170bu/ac. But it won’t average that. There are some weak spots and hogs and deer are taking their share on one end. That’s a good yield for 2nd crop irrigated. Too hot during early growth to get more than that. Also more fung/ins management needed in fall

@BrendenKleiboe1 @DanAllred1 @PioneerSeeds Yes, seed oats. Harvested in June. It had a bad hail storm thrashed half of it out, that’s why there is so much volunteer. I no-tilled the corn into the stubble.

@texan40 I am slightly more concerned about the trace amounts of grease and heavy metals I have ingested over the years than I am about roundup or other chemicals I have been exposed. Much less about any virus. I’ve got antibodies. But I’m sure cancer or tyranny will get me some day…

Farming is mostly math and biological science, but we let psychology affect our decisions. If I would have learned this before I got into Ag sales, I would have taken more psychology courses in college.

@sellis_1994 Farmers need more perspective like this. I can remember as a kid listening to my dad and other farmers complain. I thought, “what are y’all so depressed about?” Most farmers are optimists, but we default to negativity out of self-preservation to avoid disappointment.

@captjonestime Could use a rain, but things look good. Cotton is late but has great potential if we can get it picked. Spring crops were rough because of the storms, but late milo and second crops doing great.
