🚨Indonesia's LGBTQ+ Community Is Facing Escalating Violence

if you're seeing this from outside Indonesia, please take a moment to read this and help spread the word

i tried to summarize what happened over the past few weeks about violence that targeting LGBTQ+ people, especially transgender women and feminine-presenting individuals that has been escalated at an alarming rate

many LGBTQ+ Indonesians are deeply concerned following a recent Presidential Regulation that classifies LGBTQ+ as a "non-military threat" while the regulation itself does not authorize violence, this rhetoric has been used by anti-LGBTQ+ groups as a justification to target, intimidate, and violently attack people they perceive to be LGBTQ+

a vigilante mob calling itself "Anti-Boti" has repeatedly targeted people they perceive to be LGBTQ+

earlier this week, more than 15 transgender women in Bogor were reportedly assaulted. victims were beaten, kicked, and had urine thrown at them. several suffered injuries and has received medical treatment with the support of local NGOs and donations from both Indonesians and international allies

on 17 July 2026 in Palu, a feminine-presenting man was reportedly followed into the restroom of a coffee shop by three men, brutally assaulted, left with serious injuries, and threatened with death

on 18 July, also in Palu, another man was attacked after a mob accused him of being gay simply because he was wearing makeup while sitting at a coffee shop. according to witnesses, some of the attackers were carrying bladed weapons

today, 25 July 2026, another heartbreaking news was reported in North Jakarta, where a transgender woman was allegedly chased and attacked with a Taser, while the mob record then share the video of attack online

beyond these violent attacks, many LGBTQ+ Indonesians are also increasingly worried about government policies and public discourse. Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs is currently developing an LGBTQ+ "prevention" curriculum reportedly intended for elementary school students. at the same time, several regional governments, including West Java, have announced plans to draft regulations specifically targeting LGBTQ+ issues

let's call this what it is, this is not justice, not public morality, not "protecting society
this is persecution, this is violence

when mobs feel empowered to chase, beat, humiliate, threaten, and assault people, it is no longer about "values" it is a serious violation of human rights and a failure to uphold the rule of law

I urge the Government of Indonesia to immediately investigate every reported attack, hold those responsible accountable, and guarantee the safety and equal protection of every citizen under the law

I also call on the international community, human rights organizations, journalists, media outlets, and allies around the world to pay close attention to what is happening in Indonesia. International attention matters, silence only allows this violence to continue.

anak queer itu exist, and will always be.
mereka bukan jadi queer karena diajarin di sekolah, nonton film, atau ketemu orang LGBT. tapi kalo dari kecil mereka terus diajarin LGBT adalah sesuatu yang harus "dicegah", then once they fully understand themselves, hal pertama yang ikut tumbuh bukan penerimaan diri, melainkan rasa takut, rasa malu, dan keyakinan bahwa mereka adalah barang rusak

kalau dari kecil negara mulai menanamkan bahwa keberadaan mereka adalah sesuatu yang harus "dicegah", yang lahir bukan generasi yang "straight", yang lahir justru anak anak yang ngabisin masa kecilnya dengan "kenapa gua salah?"

that's the real tragedy, dan menurut gua, itulah monster yang sebenarnya, I hope no other Minato or Yori ever has to grow up believing they're the monster
