@missozma i think the kpop fast fashion comparisons tend to be in rly bad faith but the underlying criticism of the industry’s pace doing it a disservice is not wrong
@missozma THISSS like the experience ideally should make them better performers and musicians but unfortunately u can see the burnout set in like it’s just so sad…and by the time the groups solidify themselves the companies abandon them for what’s next
@missozma i think the longevity question in kpop cannot be extricated from how the industry has no care for its idols. like u want ur group to last forever? there needs to actually be a way to keep them healthy so they can sustain it. like im sure that’s why mark left nct lol
@missozma i think this is also an issue tbh bc people want things from kpop that simply aren’t there like maybe the idol nature makes people feel comfortable projecting their own desires onto it instead of meeting the industry where it is
@missozma they don’t even know enough abt kpop to decide what is kpop and what isn’t it’s like really funny actually. they’ll hear a good song and say it’s not kpop bc it’s good JSSKJDKSJSKSJ
it is genuinely sociopathic. and cartoonishly evil. you wanna control these people so bad but you DON'T KNOW THEM! you hadn't heard of them a month ago, you CAN NOT control them and who they date. and you shouldn't WANT TO like omg you're all sick please get treatment
@missozma and their low opinion of kpop is why they believe korea doesn’t deserve their favs or whatever like it’s really a very xenophobic to engage with the medium. kpop is inferior but their favs aren’t which is why their favs have to be “above kpop” in some way which they’re not
@missozma i wonder if part of it is pride like oh if u only know one kpop group obviously ur gonna think that group is the best and they want to believe theyre stanning the best
@missozma rightt i feel like there are so many groups with great lineups but they don’t always fit Together perfectly…i think putting together a good group is probably really hard. like they (for the most part) have to be compelling individually but also work well but also longevity
@missozma i think kpop is deeply interesting it’s weird to me that there’s so many people who don’t really share the same passion for it? i think a lot of kpop stans these days are only really in it for their fav groups and don’t care abt the landscape that shapes their favs
@missozma righttt i feel like the art of developing a cohesive sound is less prioritized these days. imo this is one of the reasons newjeans was so popular but the people who try to emulate them don’t really get that part right
@missozma that’s what i thoughtttt idrk much abt singing but i feel like i get out of breath so much more easily in the lower register so i figured it was smth like that 😭😭😭 and easy is all kind of in the lower end and with *that* choreo…they set them up
@missozma like idk i feel like a good performance is not about crazy choreo at all which is why when people complain abt the lack of high intensity choreo esp for senior groups it’s like…first of all it’s not sustainable i remember svt minghao saying he’s on arthritis medication or sth
@missozma kpop stans’ outlook on kpop is some weird combination between anti intellectualism and xenophobia bc i remember seeing someone tweet a perfectly reasonable review of the aespa album and someone qrted saying it’s kpop and it’s not meant to be reviewed critically like oh ok
@missozma i feel thisss like 9muses weren’t particularly impressive vocally but their songs are written sooo well that you don’t care. i feel like a good team can make a decent song out of even singers who aren’t that great but the songs don’t seem to take in the idols’ voices themselves
