If you try it, maybe you could do a half-potato diet, too! :) If so, I definitely recommend eating the potatoes for dinner (and doing a ~20min or more walk afterwards, to stabilize blood sugar). I tried eating potatoes for lunch and ended up being way too hungry.
Thanks, that's a good suggestion about the protein powder. Indeed, I'm somewhat lactose intolerant. I'd been using casein protein because it has a bunch of calcium, which I haven't been getting much of once I moved away from potatoes + cottage cheese.
Using lite salt apparently only increased my daily potassium intake by about 5%. I've been wondering if the key is a bunch of regular salt paired with all the potassium from potatoes. Perhaps the regular salt crowds out lithium and then the potassium crowds out the regular salt. Pure potassium might also crowd out lithium, but less effectively.
Just finished the seventh week of my potato-and-cottage-cheese-for-dinner diet. I've lost almost exactly 10lb over the last seven weeks! :)
This week included notably fewer cheat days than last week XD
Results for week seven
Starting weight: 179.4lb
Ending weight: 176.4lb
Weight loss: 3.0lb
Loss per day: 0.42lb
(But see my note from last week, as this week, I lost 2lb on the first day)
Results for the entire diet
Starting weight: 186.3lb
Current weight: 176.4lb
Weight loss: 9.9lb
Loss per day: 0.2lb
Loss per week: 1.41lb
@mold_time, @exfatloss, @Will_of_Europa FYI :)
I was using casein protein, specifically two scoops of unflavored, unsweetened casein protein powder and two boiled eggs.
My potato prep method is boiling and mashing, but:
* I don't peel the potatoes.
* I thinly slice the potatoes and then boil them for about 45 minutes on high heat.
* I add a *lot* of salt (perhaps 1/4tsp), using 50% regular salt and 50% lite salt.
I wonder if adding that much salt matters, or the fact that it's 50/50 regular salt and lite, or that I boil the potatoes for so long on such high heat.
Did you try the potato diet and do a write-up? I seem to remember that you did, and I should look that up and read it again :)
Haha, thanks ^_^
It *is* pretty sweet! :D
The crazy thing, too, is that I've been losing 1lb+ per week on a *half tater* diet! I'm very curious whether the potato diet just works really well for me or if it's my preparation method that's special.
The only variation of the potato diet that I've countered so far that didn't work for me is eating boiled eggs and protein powder right before lunch. That reduced my losses to almost zero.
(@mold_time, you might think this is interesting, too. Also, thanks again for linking to my write-up :) )
@mold_time Any chance of including a link to the results of my potatoes and cottage cheese for dinner diet (https://t.co/HvY2LVWxuC) in your April Links newsletter? :)
@mold_time Ah, yes, May XD
Thanks! :)
This is the article that I published last month; it just didn't get much exposure, although some people on Reddit did check it out and liked it :)
@OpenHouseGames I wanted to report a few bugs on A Tale of Paper Demo that's on GoG (https://t.co/4qTzh9Fena)
1. On that page, it still says "A Tale of Paper is coming soon! You can wishlist it here", but the game has already been released.
2. The demo needs a setting for selecting screen resolution. My monitor defaults to 4k, but my graphics card isn't really capable of runniing 3D games at 4k, which makes the demo unplayable for me.
3. The "discussion forum" link on that page goes to the GoG general forum, rather than a specific discussion forum for the game.
Thanks! :)
Just finished the first week of my new "potatoes and refried beans for dinner" diet! :)
Week #1
Starting weight: 175.4lb
Ending weight: 174.7lb
Total weight loss: 0.7lb
Daily weight loss: 0.1lb
(The first week ended on Tuesday, April 21st)
By the way, I discovered that you'd already analyzed my hypothesis that in half-tater diets, potatoes should be eaten as a separate meal.
(See the "protocol" section of https://t.co/32P4j8TZp0 )
I think it'd be interesting to re-analyze the protocols using my method of dropping the first week of data, though, and see if anything emerges :)
I've brought my "potatoes and corn for dinner" diet to a close! :)
Overall results
Starting weight: 179.0lb
Ending weight: 175.4lb
Total weight loss: 3.6lb
Diet length: 23 days
Daily weight loss: 0.16lb
Weekly weight loss: 1.10lb
This is almost exactly the same weekly weight loss as when I did my "potatoes and cottage cheese for dinner" diet! :) (1.10lb vs 1.15lb) (https://t.co/eNsDXrKtwA)
Overall, I'd say that the diet was a success!
I had chosen corn in part because it's often viewed as obesogenic, and I thought it would be interesting to see if it messed with the effects of the potato diet. It appears that it didn't :)
I'm not sure that I'd recommend this diet, though. The corn didn't add much flavor to the potatoes, and when defecating, I could feel each kernel of corn :/
For those who can tolerate it, the "potatoes and cottage cheese for dinner" diet seems both tastier and more nutritious.
For those who are lactose intolerant, I suppose that "potatoes and corn for dinner" might be a viable option, but my guess is that "potatoes + [something else] for dinner" would probably be tastier and perhaps just as effective.
I'm happy with this diet, though. I feel that I ran it well, and it's good to know that corn seems to be yet another food that can be safely mixed with potatoes without killing their weight loss effect! :)
(@mold_time, @exfatloss, @Will_of_Europa FYI)
Just finished the third week of my "potatoes and corn for dinner" diet! :)

Ending weight: 175.8lb
Total weight loss: 2.1lb
Daily weight loss: 0.3lb
Entire diet

Ending weight: 175.8lb
Total weight loss: 3.2lb

I also started taking Zyrtek (a powerful antihistamine) a few days ago, to try to get rid of some persistent hives that I've had for a couple of months. Hopefully this doesn't affect weight loss or weight gain too much :)
@mold_time Indeed! I had expected that I would lose more weight on corn + potatoes for dinner than on cottage cheese + potatoes for dinner.
May for half-tater diets, it doesn't matter too much what's paired with the potatoes.
