@DanielKotzin The 2:00 strategy. I play golf with a friend who does nothing but complain. Incessantly in a golf cart, no escape, for 4-5 hours. When he starts in, I (on the right side of the cart) just stare up at 2:00 and pretend I don’t hear. It passes.. til it’s soon 2;00 again. Ignore!

@Read_Meee I used to just hand them my credit card and say “here, I’ll save you a trip”, when I was ready to settle up, thinking they’d bring the itemized bill with the CC slip to sign. Mostly worked out but sometimes they just brought the CC slip. Now i go through the whole drill. Slower

@Read_Meee Just ask for separate checks at the start of the meal. Takes all the awkward stress and worry out of it and allows everyone to relax and enjoy without worrying about what is to come with someone trying to weasel out, bully the situation or tip inappropriately.
