Hi everyone - exciting news! Here's the cover from the fabulous US publishers @AlgonquinBooks for my new novel, out February 2025. Isn't it beautiful??
Me to anyone who didn't ask: "I am working on pitching great magazine stories and working on my Great American memoir in snippets of time when my three kids don't need me."
@meganstielstra Congratulations. I know you changed my writing process and that was just a talk. On Zoom. In the pandemic. I can only imagine how great your craft talks and workshops are in-person.
Honoured + elated to be an editor, alongside Funso Aiyejina, for @TheCropperFndn's climate justice anthology, Writing for Our Lives, funded by @OpenSociety. Grateful to @OmarMohammed_tt & the full Cropper team for this vision.

How y'all have headphones in and not rocking your body or singing along? Y'all listening to podcasts or what? It's a full on dance party when I take the bus.
My debut memoir has been written/rewritten several times. Each time a key unlocks a door I never considered - characters, voices, moods. Every thrown out idea finds its way into a short stories that whisper themselves into being during school drop-offs. Life is good.
Our next mentor is @writesloud! Hannah is based in Washington, DC, where she edits for Alan Squire Publishing & teaches at American University. Her mentee is @christinaberke, an adjunct professor working on a memoir about body image and more. Congrats to this #AWPW2W pair!
The knee-jerk reactions always spell disaster but make a compelling story. Would have been better to ask the police to investigate the sharks; place them in a line-up and the biter identified.
Yesterday, videos and photos (warning: graphic!) emerged from Buccoo, Tobago of a substantial kill of a shiver of sharks.
This kill occurred six days after Tobagos Chief Secretary issued and recalled a $10,000 bounty for the capture of the shark that attacked a British national.
While the head of the Tobago Fisherfolk Association says this was likely an “isolated incident” and a “mistake,” the THA has now “strongly condemned” the indiscriminate shark kill.

I've moved away and back to Vegas then away again. I still visit and write about Las Vegas like I have part ownership of the Aces. What is it about this city that makes it so no one can ever really leave? It can't be the water.
Jamaica! Ferocity! PREE!
I'm elated to announce that I'm one of PREE Writing Studio's 2024 tutors for their upcoming workshops, May 27 - 30. I'll be offering the session I've taught the most around the world + love offering the most: Poetry as Ferocity.

Throw back to my MfA writing professor asking me most Thursdays what Black Twitter is talking about. He was so delightful and out of pocket. I miss that vibe and Twitter that once was.
