Aleksander Doba kayaked solo across the Atlantic Ocean (5400 km, under his own power) three times, most recently in 2017 at age of 70. He passed awsy in 2021 while climbing Kilimanjaro. After reaching top asked for a two-minute break before posing for photo. He then sat down on a rock & ‘just fell asleep.’

Aleksander Doba embodied the spirit of boundless adventure. A Polish explorer and engineer, Doba began his transatlantic expeditions in his 60s, defying age and convention. His solo voyages, powered only by paddles, endurance, and resolve, carried him thousands of miles through storms, isolation, and the relentless vastness of the sea. By the time he completed his final crossing in 2017, he had become a symbol of what the human body and mind can achieve when driven by curiosity rather than competition.

His final moments on Mount Kilimanjaro seemed almost poetic. Having reached the summit of Africa’s highest peak, Doba asked for a moment of rest before quietly passing away. It was as if a man who had conquered oceans chose to drift into eternity in peace. His life was a testament to the belief that exploration is not about youth or strength, but about spirit.

Doba once spent 47 days adrift without outside contact during one of his crossings, surviving on dehydrated food, rainwater, and unshakable will.
