Someone might hit us with: "Why not just use IPFS? It's free and decentralized, right?" Totally fair question—IPFS is awesome for that quick, peer-to-peer sharing vibe, with those handy content-addressed links like ipfs/CID that make grabbing metadata a breeze, just like Arweave. Super handy for temp stuff, like pinning a preprint while it's hot.

But here's the thing for NerdNuggets: We need permanent storage that's rock-solid for research funding records, manuscripts, and those Merkle proofs to verify everything hasn't been tampered with. Plain IPFS? It's more of a protocol than a full storage network—nodes can ghost anytime, and without constant "pinning" services (like Pinata or Filebase), poof, your data's gone if no one's hosting it. And pinning? It racks up ~$0.15-0.50/GB/month, and even then, it's not truly "forever" like Arweave's endowment setup.

That's why we're going to be using BNB Chain's Greenfield—it's like IPFS on steroids with real economic incentives. You pay for storage deals in BNB tokens, locking in long-term redundancy across 1,000+ nodes for 1-5+ years (renewable, super cheap at ~$0.001/GB/year). Cheaper, more reliable, and still gives us those easy CID URLs for citations. No more vanishing breakthroughs—your work stays archived and verifiable for the long haul!
