Today a colleague (at the branch I am temporarily reassigned to) asked me how my Hanukkah was and then said to me, “I’m not sure I should say this but, as a Christian, I would love to do both [Hanukkah and Xmas] because the savior was Jewish”. Here’s what I should have said:

4. Grouping Hanukkah with Christmas does a great disservice to the holiday. It makes us focus on one thing about it, the miracle of lights (because it fits nicely with the secular meaning of Xmas). But the actual reason for the holiday is forgotten.
