The Gentleman's Agreement Is Not Yet Settled.

When history is written honestly, it will record that November 2017 was not a stroll in the park.

It will record that men and women in uniform placed their lives, their careers, and their families on the line when the nation demanded that the gun be returned to the barracks and the people be allowed to breathe.

I was there. I know who stood where.

General Chiwenga and other comrades led from the front.

They carried the weight of Operation Restore Legacy on their shoulders while others let us speak plainly were not anywhere near the operation.

Some were hiding. Some were across the Limpopo, in holes in South Africa, waiting to be fetched when the dust had settled and the danger had passed.

We did not complain about that. In a revolution, not everyone carries the rifle. Some carry the pen, some carry the flag, some carry the future in their pockets.

What we did agree and this was a gentleman's agreement, spoken man to man, comrade to comrade was that those who bore the risk would not be forgotten.

There would be reward. Not personal enrichment, no but recognition, responsibility, and a share in building the Zimbabwe we had all bled for.

Today I look around and I ask: where is that reward?

The tenders are flowing but not to those who were near the operation.

The positions are being filled but by men whose contribution in November 2017 was to watch from a safe distance, or to arrive after the cameras.

The very people who put nothing on the line now control everything worth controlling.

And the gentleman who benefited most? He has forgotten the agreement entirely.

One term, we understood. One term, then the baton passes. Instead we have constitutional gymnastics, term extensions dressed up as amendments, and a party conference at Chinhoyi that has become an auction block for loyalty.

Let me be clear, because soldiers speak plainly: this is not about hatred. It is about honor. A soldier's word is his bond. When a gentleman's agreement is broken, the gentleman's era is over.

Operation Restore Legacy is not over until it is over. The legacy that operation sought to restore discipline, honesty, service to the people has not yet been restored.

For so long as comrades who risked everything are treated as yesterday's men while criminal tenderpreneurs who risked nothing feast at the table, the operation remains unfinished business.

The gun went back to the barracks in 2017, as it should. But the conscience of this nation did not go with it. It is still awake. It is still watching. And it will have the last word.
