VP Harris ends her campaign with a powerful sign-off:
"Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars. I know many people feel like we are entering a dark time. But for the benefit of us all, I hope that is not the case. If it is, let us fill the sky with the light of a brilliant, brilliant BILLION of stars—the light of optimism, of faith, of truth, and service."
Kids don’t care where you coached, who you coached or how many degrees you have. They just want a coach who truly cares about them & knows how to make learning the game a lot of fun! They absorb more & it’s so much more meaningful when they’re enjoying it than when they aren’t!
Coaches: You can have an open door policy all you want, but don’t assume your players have the courage to walk through the door. If they do, treat their confidence like gold. Don’t use it against them. Instead, listen & offer guidance. Be empathetic & compassionate. Build trust!
I will never tell a coach not to take a head job they’re interested in because they are hard to come by. I’d advise you to be well aware of how they treated your predecessor on their way out. The character of an organization is measured by how they treat you when they no longer have use for you.
I fully understand club sports and the purpose behind them. My own kids play and will continue to play in these types of programs. My issues is this: Please stop making kids feel guilty for trying to be a valued member of their high school programs in a different sport! What I am sick of, is clubs expect high school teams to always work around their big events, but if the club is asked to work around the HS program, the kids are threatened with no longer being on that team, or even better, told they can’t be on a certain team next year if they miss a particular tournament. There is value in club sports, especially as far as individual skills and competition level. There are also lessons in HS sports that cannot be taught in club, like playing in front of 2,000 fans in an emotional environment, with your towns name across your chest. There is value in learning how to perform in those types of situations and the pressure that comes with it! Student sections rushing the floor after huge wins are memories kids deserve to share as well! Just tired of the guilt trips and ultimatums that are forced on these kids as their careers continue. We are all in the kid business and must make them a priority physically and mentally. We must continue to find ways to work together in this arena , while promoting the idea that kids can play multiple sports if they choose to, and be encouraged by both sides to do so!
Congrats to Eastlake graduate Anaelena Ramirez who is headed to the NCAA, Division I Volleyball Tourney with Grand Canyon, who won the WAC Tourney. She has 110 kills this season.
🚨Everyone needs to give this a listen!
Randall Zimmerman from Junction City, Kansas gives coaching 101.
💥 “7.6% of kids will play college sports, but 100% of them will be adults.”
How are we using our platform to prepare them for adulthood?
Coaches don’t get paid enough. In a perfect world, coaches would have an additional salary, not a stipend! They are taken for granted and they spend endless amounts of time and effort with the student athletes. Happy for the APS coaches.
Earlier this week, the APS board voted to confirm across the board stipend raises for the district's head coaches. Been about 25 years since the last one.
I am writing on this for the Sunday AJ. Some very big bumps are now in place -- soccer coaches scored the biggest raise.
